I’ve been using a lot of phones in the past. From brands like Huawei, HTC, Motorola, Samsung, Xiaomi, and now, Nothing. My first ever nothing device was the CMF 2 Pro. I fell in love with the OS on the first day. The monochrome icons, the segregated app drawer, pull down for one handed mode, basically unique in almost all aspects. Of course it felt huge to me because I was dailying a Moto G5S plus before the CMF 😂
It has been almost a year of using the CMF 2 pro and I wanted to build a proper ecosystem, so I bought the CMF Buds 2, CMF Watch 2, Nothing Ear and then, i got my hands on the nothing Phone 3 recently.
Ecosystem
CMF Watch Pro 2
The CMF watch 2 feels very limited in eco system features. It is built only for tracking your workouts, showing you notifications and displaying the time. The watch has poor haptics, which can be digested for the price It’s being sold at. It’s a fast and sleek watch with a longer battery life.
The watch could use a widget or an icon which upon clicking will show the user the information about the phone’s current battery health, which bluetooth device it’s connected to and other basic information which the user might need to know while their phone is away or in charge. It could use a sort of battery trigger alarm aswell to let the user know when the phone is charged to a certain amount of percent.
An icon can be added to the watch to toggle battery saver and toggle hotspot on or off.
When I’m using the voice assistant feature ( not the chat gpt voice feature) on the CMF watch 2 when my phone is away, it doesn’t give a beep or a notification if gemini is listening or not. Giving a beep or a sound to let the user know if the assistant is listening to you would be useful. And also the reply from the AI assistant isnt given from the watch but from the phone. If the user is connected to Earbuds, then the assistant should speak through the buds, if not, through the watch (only if the assistant was activated via the voice assistant feature in the watch)
These features would greatly improve the communication between the phone, and the user, so he can do get to know about essential information without actually getting on the phone to check it out.
Nothing / CMF Audio and Nothing X
I’ve used both the CMF Buds 2 and the Nothing Ear. Both are really great products. They have very good integration with the phone and Nothing X app really works like a charm for me.
My suggestion for the Nothing X app would be to add a feature to test out the microphones on the buds independently. Letting you hear your own voice to check their quality, and the option to pick between which microphone to be used to be added to the nothing X app aswell instead of only having it in the system settings.
PS: Why is the battery life shorter in the Nothing ear compared with the CMF Buds 2 🤨
Nothing OS
Beautifully crafted and turned. I’ve had a fluid experience with the phone 3. There were minor issues I ran into once in a while but overall, smooth performance. I expected a lot from nothing OS 4 when it was announced but I was kinda let down. It’s still a great OS tho but it could implement some small tweaks here and there to make it more refined
i) Dual Wallpaper
A feature where the wallpaper changes automatically depending on Light or Dark mode. The user can go to the settings and set which wallpaper should be on for light mode and which one for dark. This gives the homescreen and lockscreen a bit more personality as the wallpaper changes according to the color of the icons. For example if you are using the windows 11 wallpaper for your phone, the wallpaper would change depending on whether the phone is on light or dark mode in order to match the phone’s aesthetic would be a good feature.
ii) Quick Settings (Bluetooth)
When you click on one of the nothing devices on the bluetooth tile in quick settings, it doesn’t connect to the device instantly, but takes you to another panel where you are supposed to click it once again. Making it so that it just automatically connects just by tapping once would be beneficial instead of clicking twice.
Just tapping once would be enough and it should go to connecting w the device.
iii) Gallery Integration with Google Photos
We all know that the Google photos editor is more advanced when compared with the Nothing Gallery’s editor. Give an option where once you select a picture in the gallery, you get an option to open it with google photos in order to edit it until the Nothing gallery becomes capable enough in the future.
Ideas for Nothing Phone 3
Phone 3 is a great phone. It heats up hot like hell during intense gaming and has poor battery optimisation when compared to the S25 Ultra but it handles well.
Nothing should work on the poor battery optimisation of the phone 3, get it sorted so the users can get a lasting battery life out of the 5500/5150 mah battery.
3rd party Glyph toys mess with the volume indicator and the essential space recording feature, which leads to the information not being displayed. It might be a hard fix, so devs 🥴. Do what you can do best.
I came across a glyph toys named Lumi, which chimes and reacts to your voice upon activating the assistant on the phone. This feature is a must have on the Phone 3 and could really put the matrix into good use.
