Google is implementing this cool new feature on Android next September, which requires developers to pretty much dox themselves. This includes sideloaded apps. The original philosophy behind Android was that you are free to do whatever you want with it. This new update pretty much removes that entirely. Google, like all big tech companies (except Apple), is lobbying governments around the world to implement age and identity verification legislation to “protect the kids” and “keep the dumb people safe”. Obviously, ’tis but a ruse. They want your data, and governments go along with it so they can surveil you. Now, what can we do? Follow in the footsteps of Motorola. Work with the people behind GrapheneOS or something similar. Yes, that will mean Nothing Phones may no longer be available in France (unconfirmed). Yes, that will mean you can no longer use Revolut and some other apps. Even though that matters a lot, it’s super important to cut away from big tech.
P.S. If you’re going to do this, make it count as a security update so people with older phones can still get this. It is technically a security update, so it’s the least you could do.
