Arc is a really good new way of interacting with a browser.
But only for Mac user.
I got access to the beta version of Windows in early January and using it alongside my Firefox setup. But it lacks SOOOO much feature right now in windows that it’s not usable…
Crypto extension doesn’t work for starter and that’s a dealbreaker for me as I’m using them every day.
Arc can be set by default only for http and https, it means that you can’t open PDF by default… and if you don’t have acrobat, having your main browser open a PDF is just mandatory…
also not to mentioned that you don’t have settings in windows for now (there are some workarounds, but nor great).
And again… it’s chromium, so it’ll be unusable after the shift to Manifest V3 extension. That’s why i’m sticking to Firefox for now. You can even replicate the workflow of Arc via CSS and extension.
PS again : all the feature Arc is “inventing / bringing in” already exist, by the way… Split view exist in Vivaldi for years now, as Spaces. Firefox also has Spaces for years with containers and Simple tab groups extension. Vertical tabs is also in Firefox for years with a bit of CSS. Good marketing and so on, but all the features are already there.
If we want to keep internet as free and open as before -> use firefox. and not chromium
If wewant to seek for new way of interacting with a browser -> Arc is great, Vivaldi too (also someone made a clone CSS for Vivaldi and it looks really great)
