First of all, the Nothing 4a & 4a Pro’s are great design. I really love it. I don’t know about others, but personally I liked it a lot. Great job to the Nothing design team.
I am also convinced by the specifications — everything looks cool. However, when it comes to Nothing OS, I feel quite disappointed.
Features like Essential Space and Magic Eraser are fine, but from a UI/UX perspective, there is still a lot that needs improvement.
Here are a few things that Nothing should really work on:
I don’t expect a complete ecosystem from a startup, but I do expect better UI improvements, including material design changes and improved icons.
The Nothing X app feels worse compared to the previous version. The animations are not smooth.
I cannot change the mobile data SIM directly from the Control Center, which is inconvenient. (I think this is a bug)
The lock screen experience is very poor.
Home screen widgets are not flexible enough to resize or adjust easily.
Most importantly, Nothing should develop its own core apps such as Notes, Phone Dialer, Messages, Reminder app, etc.
Even simple things like Gallery animations feel very basic something interns in my office could probably implement better.
Also, if possible, it would be great to have a Nothing X app widget for iPhone as well. It would be really helpful because I use two phones, an iPhone 17 Pro and a Nothing Phone (2).
I’m not expecting you to deliver everything perfectly at once. Instead, focus on doing one thing perfectly, and then move on to the next improvement.
I hope this feedback doesn’t hurt the team. Feedback is meant to help improve things. I’m sharing this not to criticize harshly, but because I genuinely want the product to become better.
This feedback comes from a fan of Carl Pei who truly wants Nothing to succeed.
The phone looks premium while the Nothing OS doesn’t feel that way.
