Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my battery experience with the Nothing Phone (3a).

really appreciate the Nothing team for the continuous software updates and optimizations. The device feels stable and the battery performance has been very good after the update.

Device settings

• Adaptive refresh rate enabled

• Always-On Display turned off

• Mostly using Wi-Fi

• Watching videos mostly in 1080p on YouTube

Usage pattern

• Around 3–6 hours of YouTube

• Some gaming in Minecraft

• Instagram and normal browsing

Battery result

I am getting around 12–13 hours of screen-on time from a full charge, which seems very good.

Observation

Battery performance feels stable and consistent during normal daily usage.

Question

Are other Nothing Phone (3a) users getting similar battery backup? Would like to know your experience as well.

Jaikify 🇮🇳 Your graph shows that you didn’t do a single full charge, but there was at least one partial charge (probably more than one). During partial charges, the SOT doesn’t reset and keeps increasing, which is why you see 13 hours… but it’s only an illusion. 👇

Which will show u exact sot and background usage

PinoLY I actually charged the phone when it reached 1%. So this was basically a full cycle. The graph may look like a small top-up, but the usage shown (around 13 hours SOT) came from that charge cycle.

PinoLY right… so many people got confused with that… with this calculation I’m getting more than 30 minutes sot of 1% of battery…

Op should try charging it to 100% and then post results…

To be fair, Nothing’s battery usage graph is very weird so both of you could be off by a lot. They need to tweak this or change how they calculate SOT in some way lol

12+ hours SOT on a 3a is actually possible (if using in low light environment)

This is with all the AI junkware removed though, but still have Dynamic Refresh because I cannot stand 60hz

YoshiMK My 3a Pro only last 8hrs SoT at best 🙁 and what do you mean AI junkware ? Could you show me the apps that need to remove ?

YoshiMK These statistics are completely wrong. @JP’s graph proves it: 80% battery and 11 hours of SOT, so it could easily reach 30–40 hours of SOT before running out… absurd! 😅

TarunBotsha “Since last full charge” is actually part of the default Android battery statistics system. Android resets the main usage cycle when the device reaches 100% because it treats that as a complete charge cycle.

The downside is that people who charge between 20–80% won’t always see a clear single-cycle usage pattern. It would be better if the system also showed stats “since last unplugged” for more accurate day-to-day tracking.

Nope - I could show you many screenshots of me pushing 10+ hours SOT regularly. I charge 100% every time to reset the counter, and never charge again inbetween

Dimas Getting rid of stuff like - Android System Intelligence, AI Core, Google App, Gemini, Essential Space, Private Compute Services, SafetyCore, etc etc

I’d even suggest toggling off stuff like WiFi/Bluetooth location scanning, Unknown Tracker Alerts (this uses a ton of Bluetooth/Location), and stuff like Location scanning for Timezone - this one is interesting because it pings GPS all day for little to no benefit given most people aren’t changing timezones frequently enough for this to do anything useful.

All the “Smart” Wi-FI settings are junk too - like scanning for the best connection. Most people typically are near a single access point so this is just a drain for no benefit

Similarly - stripping out the ‘Usage Access’ permission from the majority of apps is good (Digital Wellbeing in particular)

YoshiMK I don’t doubt that you’re seeing 10+ hours of SOT; I doubt that the software is calculating it correctly.

PinoLY What does your SOT say then? Maybe your phone is faulty? My SOT pairs up with Digital Wellbeing numbers (when I had it enabled) so I an confident it is accurate enough + I’ve measured using more accurate 3rd party apps which agrees.

YoshiMK My phone isn’t part of this comparison—it’s an NP2, and I no longer check the battery life because I always charge it up to 80%. Mine wasn’t meant to be a criticism; I’ve just noticed, both on the NP1 and NP2, that the battery statistics were different every day (sometimes significantly), even though my phone usage was more or less the same.

You also have to consider that SOT isn’t a real indicator of battery life. I don’t play games or watch videos; instead I listen to music with wireless earbuds, keep Wi-Fi always on, and use hotspot for many hours when I travel. So my SOT has always been very low because the screen is almost always off, yet the battery has still done a great job. That’s why I say those statistics aren’t very reliable.

YoshiMK it’s NOS problem… it’s not about device or hour of sot… it’s about how it’s calculated… if you charge 100% and start using it and it start that calculation of sot…but if you charge inbetween from like 50% to 60% …so that 10% doesn’t taken into consideration for that sot shown in battery section… it will not reset and show combine sot of 100% full charge + 10% extra charge… so it will show higher sot…

In your case this is not a issue because you full charged your phone and it’s showing for that 100% charge only…

But jaikify charged it in between so that it’s not for 100% of charge … it’s for more than 100% of charge…

JP Yes… I’ve never quite understood the logic of using “Since last full charge”

Perhaps it’s an intentional way to obscure the stats somewhat? Other brands reset on any charge which is arguably a more useful indicator especially for those not always charging to 100%

Realme and Motorola also shows usage from last full charge… and anyways it’s default android battery thing…
