With all the talent in the community toward 3D modelling and product design, I imagine I’m not alone in having a 3D Printer (Or at least access to one). This hobby started for me during my time at school, doing a GSCE in Electronics and Product Design where we had minimal access to an FDM Printer, then at university, I worked in a lab with Form Lab’s Form 2 where I had more of an opportunity to try my hand and printing.
After university, I picked up an Ender 3 Pro in 2020 once I had the space for it, since then, I’ve done a number of upgrades (Silent Motherboard, Phateus Dragonfly BMS Hot-end, Hero Me Gen 7 Shroud) with a few upgrades planned in! (Linear Rails, Hermit Crab switching system, CR touch). This printer has been a real learning opportunity for me, I do find myself constantly troubleshooting it, but also upgrading, tuning, tweaking and learning.
In 2021, I also got an Elegoo Mars 2 Pro (With the Mercury 2-in-1 Wash/Curing station) which I use for printing Miniatures or parts that I want to do minimal post-processing on. This is very much my “Set it and forget it” type printer, I do find I have to worry about orientation/build supports, but that’s more on the slicer side of things than anything else!
Are there any other printing people in the community? What are you printing on? What models have you printed? If you’re a designer, do you take into consideration how things might be printed/manufactured?
