The 4a Pro in Europe isn’t officially sold yet, but I get one early through the community drop. After testing it out for a few days, here’s what I’ve noticed about the camera:
🙂↔️Photo Mode:
Night Mode is weird: Once you hit 7x zoom, Night Mode just stops working. The telephoto lens only lets you use it between 3.5x and 6.9x, which makes no sense.
Too much processing: Even if I turn off HDR, the phone still forces a bunch of post-processing on the photos. It doesn’t just “capture what I see” in the viewfinder.
Exposure is all over the place: The metering algorithm needs work. I can stand in the exact same spot and the brightness will just jump around from light to dark.
🙂↔️Video:
Lens switching: We really need the ability to switch between lenses while recording in 1080p/60 and 4K/30.
4K/60 Support: Both the main and telephoto lenses should be able to do 4K/60. I don’t even mind if we can’t switch lenses mid-video at that frame rate, I just want the option.
Just a thought on the specs: The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip, the LYT700C, and the JN5 sensors all natively support 4K/60. Locking it feels like a deliberate choice by the software team. If the Pro has the exact same video specs as the standard 4a, it’s kind of a waste of that better ISP. There’s really no “Pro” gap between the two right now.
