Hey everyone. Is anyone else missing the days of truly handy phones? Before Nothing, I used a Pixel 4a and a Galaxy S23, and I really miss that compact size. There is a huge fanbase all over the world waiting for a proper compact flagship, but major brands are ignoring us.

What if Nothing stepped in and disrupted this space? Here is my concept for the Nothing Phone 4 (mini):

Design and Display: Premium metal frame, symmetrical super thin borders, and the signature transparent back protected by Gorilla Armor. A very handy 5.8 inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with an adaptable 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rate. The device must be waterproof.

Power and Cooling: Flagship Snapdragon chipset. No compromising on performance just because the size is small. Additional performance chipsets will be great like GPS, Wifi, etc. Let us skip the wireless charging gimmicks and use that extra space for a proper vapor chamber cooling system to keep heavy usage smooth.

Battery and Charging: A 4000 to 4500 mAh silicon carbon battery. This new battery tech keeps the phone thin without sacrificing capacity. For ultimate convenience, add 90W fast charging. Plus, Nothing needs to design a dedicated premium charger for this instead of just relying on CMF accessories.

Cameras: Top notch Samsung triple camera setup. 50MP main with sensor shift OIS, 50MP ultrawide with macro, and a 50MP telephoto with 3x or 5x optical zoom. Plus a 50MP front camera.

Glyphs: A redesigned Glyph matrix with much higher pixel density. Since the back glass is smaller, making the LEDs more detailed would look incredibly futuristic (or) go back to the legendary LED lighting of Phone 1 which is much useful and unique.

A phone like this gives us flagship photography and performance without needing two hands to use it.

Concept is awesome. If they come up with such product then definitely it’s worth to buy it. But size must be 6 or 6.3 inch so that it can be last for whole day. As of now days lots of computation required to run various applications and to optimize them.

The phone sounds good but you didn’t specify which chipset being used. To compete with top contenders the phone should be looking at Snapdragon 8 gen 4 or 5. And why take away wireless charging? To many things rely on it now and wired chargers have become so expensive where I am that wireless becomes just overall easier. Another basis, how much will this phone cost? Will it be between the 4a and the pro version? Or is it going to cost more because it’s a flagship unlike the rest of the Nothing Phones. It may have some features but it’s hard to call it a flagship if it lacks the basic features that every other phone has made complementary. The only thing that makes this phone stand out is the back cooling system and the glyph face system. Summary: keep the cooling system, price range 600 to 1000 $aud (or to whatever that converts to), add wireless charging and needs a powerful chipset that actually competes in the phone world.

Tbh, Nah. Sounds too good to be true as a deal. My favourite thing about the brand is, “Works for most people, most of the time - MKBHD”. That’s the case even with the flagship model i am using currently.

I’ll pinpoint the issues in your post directly -

Battery. Phone(1) had 4500mah battery with an old processor & samsung wasn’t able to put an extra 600mah in s24 as well, despite having a better display & being a flagship.

Form Factor. The specific form factor that is talked about would incur too much cost for manufacturing, let alone branding & distribution. Its too much to pack in a small space, that’ll definitely increase the pricing, that too on a metal body, as its production cost due to cnc machining which for my understanding i call it “subtractive manufacturing” meaning material is removed to create a desired block, that will raise both constraints - cost & time.

Timing & Current market conditions, ram & storage would be an issue for to correctly target the user space.

When this would work -

When this thing comes out as a limited edition model, having value & scarcity + economies that can support this model to have some traction, where the company can earn some more brownie points & cash flow.

But again, its too much risk for a startup that have investors globally, who would not be easily convinced of a full gas pedal.

What you can target better -

NothingOS. We all know this fact, that its their strongest point, being still in its nacent phase of evolution & getting so many users to earn its recognition & criticism.

ArnimZolaa just perfect, bang on. How about if we stick to 2 cameras as it’s mini version and just serves the purpose with maximum features. Just like the initial Iphone SE’s or even the Asus compact ones. Just same like nothing 3a lite with a little more features with just a glymph matrix or just the light one with a probable inked screen at the middle. 🙂

Have been looking for a mini phone which is really handy. If Nothing is launching a mini version for their flagship shop phone it will be a great move and will surely be the one I have been waiting for .

Asus tried for compact flagship a while back I think it was Zenfone 10

A compact flagship smartphone with every bells and whistles

With 4300mah battery in 5.9″ phone

It had wireless charging and don’t forget it even had 3.5 mm headphone jack but due to lack of demand asus stopped making compact flagship smartphone

Remember it was not a bad phone from bad company no it was a great phone with every thing and every feature that you can ask for but it didn’t sold well

I think it’s down to fashion choices as mad as that sounds people wanted smaller phones to simply drop in a handbag or in a pocket then people wanted to be ‘ seen’ with a brand a colour etc so companies seem to make bigger phones then with the introduction of the note handsets for power users again people wanted bigger

Compact is a great idea hopefully they will be an option along with what is available now

You didn’t design a concept, you asked AI to generate a “mini phone with the Nothing design”, which it miserably failed at.

Nothing isn’t just lights slapped on the back of the phone with random shapes here and there. The amount of detail and careful planning that goes into each version just cannot be replicated by a prompt.

Nothing against mini phones, even tho I think they’ll not make a comeback. You did not design anything. Pick up a pencil and a ruler, reference other Nothing products and then carefully design one.

When we post our raw sketches and early concepts, they often get ignored. But that’s where the real design happens—where ideas are explored, refined, and shaped. Sketches aren’t just rough work; they’re the backbone of every great design.

And why are the major brands ignoring you? Because that fanbase isn’t as huge as you think it is. People rather buy the bigger phones than compact ones, especially because it has already been mentioned multiple times a compact phone isn’t cheaper than a larger one - so people rather take the large for the same money and get “more” than buying the small phone for the same price and get “less”.

PREET AJMERI oh clean! I love what you’ve done with it! Keeping the Nothing aesthetics but also made it a bit more compact for well, a compact phone.

I would have a completely different approach. I’d probably make it a very different design from the 4a or the 4a pro seeing how both of those look very different from each other too.

If I have time, I’ll also come up with a design of my own.

I really miss small handy phones, the iphone 17 feels great in the hand, but it’s too expensive for my liking. Samsung S25/26 just misses a lot of perks from the plus and ultra.
