They say the “honeymoon phase” with a new phone lasts about a week. After that, the flashing lights stop being a novelty and the reality of the software starts to bite. But after 25 days with the Nothing Phone (4a) here in the UK, I’ve found something rarer than a flashy back panel: A brand that actually listens.
The “Naked” Truth (Design & Feel)

There’s something cool about Nothing’s “naked” design language. Got the Black variant for the Global community review program, thanks to Nothing community team. It feels sophisticated—like a piece of high-end hi-fi gear from the 80s sent back from the future.
However, we need to talk about the display, it is a gorgeous 1.5K AMOLED, but the aspect ratio is noticeably wide. If you’re a gamer, you’re going to love it—the extra horizontal space for your thumbs is a massive advantage in Call of Duty or Genshin. But if you’re trying to send a quick text one-handed while walking through a rainy London street, you’ll definitely feel that width. It’s a bit of a stretch, literally.
The 5,080mAh
In the UK, we got the 5,080mAh battery, and it has been a silent hero. By day 25, the “Adaptive Battery” has finally learned my chaotic schedule. I’m no longer checking my percentage nearly evening. Even with the Glyph lights blinking and high brightness engaged, this thing is a marathon runner. It’s the kind of reliability that makes you forget where you put your charger.
Nothing OS 4.1: The Community Effect
This is where it gets interesting. Usually, when you buy a mid-range phone, the software you get on Day 1 is what you’re stuck with for months. Not here.
The jump to Nothing OS 4.1 felt like the phone finally “woke up.” Active community really works beyond everything to make the experience next level.
Cameras:-
As always main wide lens shines, not over saturated, sharp images
Game changer is Tetra prism Telephoto lens, fabulous even on 20x it’s well usable images. Only concern is the wide angle lens.

The “Jitter” is Gone: Remember that shaky 4K video? - The latest update recalibrated the OIS, and it’s now buttery smooth.
No Balanced Skies: The highlight adjustments are not yet settled. The “nuclear” white clouds still bothers, especially in selfie
The Stability: The micro-stutters have vanished. It feels “glued” to my thumb.
The “Focus” Struggle
Is it perfect? Not yet. The camera still has a habit of “hunting” for focus, especially when you’re trying to snap a quick photo of something close up. It’s like the AI is thinking a second too long. It’s significantly better than it was on Day 1, but it’s the one lingering reminder that this is still a work in progress
Still can’t use ultra wide in 4K and OIS in Telephoto lens really struggling.
The 25-Day Wrap Up
What I’m Loving
Active Listening: It’s refreshing to support a brand where “genuine feedback” actually results in a software patch two weeks later.
The Stealth Look: That transparent black design is a head-turner without being loud.
What I’m Learning to Live With
The Wide Stance: Great for gaming, a bit of a handful for everything else.
The Focus Hunt: You still have to tap the screen occasionally to tell the camera, hey it’s here…
The Final Word
The Nothing Phone (4a) feels like a community project you can carry in your pocket. It’s 90% of a flagship experience for a fraction of the price, backed by a enthusiastic team and fabulous community.
