Essential Notifications in Whatsapp

I am having some trouble getting essential notifications to work with WhatsApp. I had a 2a Phone, and I had a very simple one rule essential notifications setup that worked well. It simply lit up the back glyph LED when someone sent me a direct message on WhatsApp.

I am trying to do the same on the 4a Pro, but using the glyph matrix to show a letter identifying who has messaged me. It works, but only when I assign a contact to the essential notifications rule. The “All contacts” rule does not work, but I can live with that by assigning rules to important contacts.

The other problem is that the rules assigned to one or more contacts seem to trigger not only when they send me a direct message, but also when they send messages to WhatsApp groups we share, which is annoying.

Am I missing something?

kurtie You’re probably not missing anything.

Looks like Essential Notifications currently can’t properly differentiate WhatsApp DMs and group messages for assigned contacts. Might need a software update fix

Hi!
If you want an essential notification to be configured everytime you get a notification from Whatsapp, you can just omit the ‘from who’ option when selecting the notification type. You can just select the app as Whatsapp and the glyph will light up when you get a notification from whatsapp.

As for the DM/group message problem, I don’t think I have a solution :_)

Funny thing is that I had a Nothing 2a before the 4a Pro, and that was working flawlessly: the glyph led would light up only when receiving a DM, (which I consider essential) but not for a group message (which is not directed to me, but to a group).

The solution I’ve found is to silence whatsapp groups when they are active so that they don’t trigger esential notifications… is not perfect, but good enough.

I have a rule in essential notifications for whatsapp without a ‘who’: When Anyone send me a message from Whatsapp mentioning Anything then [icon] will light up… but for some reason this rule has never worked for me, only the rules with a contact assigned.

Would be cool that group messages would not trigger essential notifications.

Bei der App ‘Signal’ ist es genau anders herum. Ich kann keine Essential Benachrichtigung einstellen für einzelne Personen. Die Nothing software erkennt offensichtlich keine DMs innerhalb dieser Messaging App.

Scheint so, als müssten wir auf ein Update seitens Nothing warten.
