RitwikSondhi I had to sit the entire night using AccuBattery and the results are concerning. Using a CMF 140W charger (PPS supported) with the in-box Nothing Phone 3 cable, a full 7% to 100% charge took 4 hours 18 minutes. I’ve also tested with a boAt 67W charger (perviosly) — same issue.
Charging curve from a single session (17/04/2026, 9:26 PM to 1:45 AM):
At 8% — 15.8W / 4,397mA — 161%/h — 33°C
At 8% — 21.7W / 5,757mA — 68.3%/h — 34°C
At 21% — 12.3W / 3,176mA — 80.1%/h — 39°C
At 27% — 2.3W / 601mA — 50%/h — 37°C
At 30% — 2.7W / 715mA — 41.3%/h — 37°C
At 43% — 4.8W / 1,231mA — 33%/h — 36°C
At 48% — 27.5%/h — 43°C
At 56% — 3.6W / 909mA — 25.2%/h — 40°C
At 65% — 1.5W / 369mA — 20.5%/h — 40°C
At 75% — 3.2W / 769mA — 20%/h — 36°C
At 79% — 4.8W / 1,126mA — 20.1%/h — 35°C
Key observations:
Phone charges at 15-21W only briefly at very low battery, then crashes to 2-5W for the rest of the session.
Temperature spikes to 43°C mid-charge.
Screen was on during most of the session, which I understand impacts speed — but screen-off charging (297mAh in 4 min = ~4,352mA) shows the phone can pull higher current. It just doesn’t sustain it.
Battery health is fine — 0.99 cycles, 94% efficiency, estimated capacity 5,161mAh vs 5,500mAh design.
Ambient temperature: India (~30°C+).
Even accounting for screen-on usage and ambient heat, 4+ hours for a full charge on a 65W rated phone seems abnormal.
I understand thermal throttling is expected behavior, but the phone is hitting 43°C during charging with just screen-on usage — not gaming, not heavy processing. If the phone’s own thermal design can’t handle charging while the screen is on without throttling to 2-3W, that’s a design or software issue, not user error.
A 65W rated phone that can only sustain fast charging for 5 minutes before throttling to USB 2.0 speeds isn’t delivering on its spec sheet.
Questions for the community and Nothing team:
Is this level of thermal throttling normal for the India variant?
Are other India users seeing similar behavior in warm ambient conditions?
Is there a software update planned to improve thermal management during charging?
Should this be raised as a warranty concern with Nothing support?
