We used to have exactly that (so Google Photos with Nothing’s “skin” on top, it looked like Nothing Gallery, but with all Google Photos functionality, including sync with your Google account), but people were strongly against it because it used Google Photos, so Nothing listened their users and developed our current non‑Google Gallery ( https://nothing.community/d/35687-nothing-gallery-update-v2090623 ), then people asked “Why are all Google’s AI (from Google Photos) features gone?” ( https://nothing.community/d/45804-nothing-gallery-ai-features-removed ) 😬

Basic “eraser” thing (which is disaster and never works good, not even in Photoshop) is offline, yes. It’s bad because it works without any context (no AI, AKA LLM to power it) so it makes up stuff by combining nearest pixels. True functional and very effective “Magic Eraser”, as it’s called in Google Photos, relies completely on Google Gemini, and is infinitely superior in what it can achieve.

Night and day difference, with a simple subject, and a simple background. The more complex the photo composition is, that worse that “offline” one gets to perform.
Like I said, whatever Nothing does they can’t win this game, the vocal user base will always be unhappy about it even when they get exactly what they ask for. They want nothing at all with Google, but have all Google’s functionality (so, Gemini, which is developed and owned by Google). The only way for Nothing to achieve that is to spend hundreds of billions of $ to develop their own LLM, and, hopefully, manage to beat Gemini. OpenAI is burning 200 billions per year and they can’t do that, Apple didn’t even try because they know it’s a losing game so they just pay Google 1 billion USD annually to use Gemini to power their Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, so I wouldn’t be particularly optimistic here in regards to Nothing (which is a 1.2 billion USD company, and they would need to spend at least 500 times that amount to just, maybe, catch Google)…
I’m with you on this matter, btw, although having Google Photos accessible on all my other devices, including my laptops, is definitely too strong a reason not to stick with it.
