Welcome to this month’s photo challenge!
This month we’re highlighting the most natural highlight in photography by purposely capturing lens flare.

☀️ Lens flare is one of those things photographers often avoid. Shield your lens, adjust your angle, fix it in post. But what if, just this once, you leaned into it?
Lens flare happens when light hits your camera sensor directly. Usually the sun, but streetlights, candles, and reflections can all do the trick with the right set up. The result is those streaks, halos, and bursts of light that spill across your frame. On a phone, it can look especially beautiful.
Your challenge this month is to make the flare the star of the shot. Not a happy accident hiding in the corner, front and centre, impossible to ignore.
Some tips to get you started:
Shoot directly toward a light source and shift your angle slowly until the flare appears
Try shooting through trees, between buildings, or over the horizon at golden hour
Experiment with partially blocking the sun with an object to shape the flare
Look for water or glass nearby, reflections can create flare in unexpected places
The photo itself can have any subject you want, as long as the lens is flared, it’s eligible to enter!
