I had a random idea looking at the lanyard hook/attachment point on the CMF Buds.
What if that existing attachment point could also work as a magnetic electrical connection between the two earbuds?
The idea would be:
Normal use:
Phone -> Bluetooth -> L + R earbuds
Wired use:
Phone -> USB C cable -> L earbud -> magnetic cable/bridge -> R earbud
The earbuds could detect whether the physical connection is present and automatically switch between wired and Bluetooth audio.
The bridge could be detachable, with tiny recessed magnetic contacts so it wouldn’t look like a chunky cable sticking out of the earbuds. When disconnected, the buds would just go back to normal TWS Bluetooth operation.
I was thinking about this specifically because CMF already puts a lanyard attachment point on the Buds. Instead of adding a completely new port somewhere, that existing design feature could potentially be used as the connection point.
I have no idea how practical this would be electrically or whether the current hardware could support it, so I’m curious what you guys think.
Would something like this actually be useful?
