Black crush = pixels off, they are slow to turn back on, so you get that effect (if your source, so video, is of good enough quality/bitrate). That, to some extent, can be fixed via software update. Green tint can’t.
Malacatuni That is simply not true because, for example, toggling ‘Disable Hardware Overlays’ fixes the grey banding. It seems to be a firmware issue.
Wait, so you think it’s not true that the display is a physical component of a device, that it’s an existing piece of hardware? Because you literally proved my point (unless by “that is simply not true” you meant what I asked in my first sentence/question) 🤷♂️ When you disable HW overlays (HW = hardware), every app displaying anything on the screen (which is really a hardware part, believe me you can even touch it) will use its portion of video memory to constantly check for collisions and clipping in order to render a proper image.
So your phone will use a lot of processing power, heat up more, and the display panel will wear down (degrade) faster because it can’t enter a power saver mode. With HW overlays enabled, each app gets its own chunk of video memory, everything that matters is rendered on the GPU, power usage is low (no need for constant collision and clipping checks), and the display can leverage its physical characteristics to consume less power, leading to less subpixel degradation. Disabling HW overlays is only useful for debugging (and there is nothing to debug here since you already know what the issue is). Windows in Android are always composited - always. Disabling HW overlays = doing the exact opposite.
