Im love where this OS 5 is going. Cause OS 4 is a bit underwhelming, honestly.

Font in the settings looks crisp, and I have a bit of stigmatism.

Liking the updated widget styling for the lock screen. Running into a problem with Wi-Fi though. Where I normally am during the evening my signal is a bit weak, but the phone now keeps telling me Wi-Fi has no internet and buffering videos and what-not. I thought it may be the auto switcher so I disabled the fall back to stronger Wi-Fi and the fallback to mobile but it still keeps telling me no internet while my laptops and hometheater PC are both still connected without problems. If needed I can drop a log-dump via beta feedback. Nothing news played back fine but anything like YouTube or BiliBili is suffering from long 30+ second buffering while the phone tells me I have no internet.

Outside of this the beta has been pretty cool. Loving the overall design and the settings sections feel more fluid. I personally like the split notification/quick settings window and have set up more widgets on my lock-screen. Can’t wait to try the lucent theme.
I have also seen it rinsing my battery very quickly. I don’t know if this is from playing with the phone more or what but it’s noticeably dropping more quickly.

Overall OS is good, it is beta so I expected bugs, but it is working fine.

Only thing the animations are slow, I enabled developer options changed the animation scale so it is working fine.

After enabling developer options chrome working fine and camera glitch also working fine.

Collector widget needs more perfection, it is not that much as expected.

Away time widget time is Random, that needs fix.

Notification bar changes are good and useful.

With ~3GB update software file, I expected less experience but it is more than what I expected.

If the team is working on bringing more add-ons to the stable version then it is better.

Zac 🛸 Hi I install the beta and notice one issue so far that annoyed me.

The notification on the lockscreen. I had some of it disable to show on the lockscreen but it keep appearing every time a new notification from that category arrive. I tried to disable and re-enable it but and also restart my phone. But the result is the same. Im not sure if this is a bug or not but can you look into it.

Just noticed that typing is now a mess with the beta update if you are doing it relatively quick.

Quick correction, touch response isn’t at its best at the moment with the beta version. Struggles to understand and differentiate between a tap and a swipe at some instances.

And one more thing, the button layout in the lockscreen is places too low

What I loved

The Soundscapes widget looks and sounds cool. I use white noise to sleep so having quick access to it is really helpful.
The screen recording floating widget is definitely a game changer. It was really annoying to go and search the stop button.
The easter egg of the Timer widget moving as if it had water is pretty cool.
Overall smoothness is definitely improved. The phone feels “snappier”.

What I HATED

I’m extremely disappointed on the new Glyph Timer. It used to be extremely helpful for the gym, and the interface was pretty straightforward. Now I can’t even set timers from the lock screen because clicking on the quick action button makes me unlock my phone to use the new app, and even then it is not that helpful because I can’t set a timer for the specific time I want, it’s either a full minute or a set of seconds, I can’t set one for 3:30 mins because there’s simply no way to do it.

The new quick settings panel is also quite bad. I don’t like to have the panels separate, so why are they not the same size anymore? Extremely bad look

The whole point of Nothing is to make my phone less distracting. I understand that’s why the custom icon pack has no colored icons. But on this new update, they have color on the notifications, which they didn’t before and completely breaks off the aesthetic of my Phone and kind of defeats the purpose of the icon pack too

Mobile data ALWAYS asks for confirmation when turning it on, which is extremely annoying for someone who uses it on a daily basis and constantly turns it on and off. A toggle to deactivate the confirmation would be amazing.

Dvd have u tried the seconds mode ….what does it do??? But yeah I second what you said ability to enable and end the glyph timer from the lockscreen is crucial (if we have a quick setting widget for ut) it also helps me during my study session without going off and doomscrolling.

Dvd i thought it’s just me that glyph timer can no longer be activated from the lockscreen. If i need to unlock phone i might as well use a widget from other apps with more feature that this crap

also agreed with the colored icon in notification. Who approve these lmfao

5 column home screen still has laughable huge gap between dock and first row
still has no double tap to wake, do you know how many times this trigger in my pocket and when picking up. The phone should work for me not me adjusting how to handle it
confirm to turn on mobile data. Are we progressing or regressing? who thought this is good UX

After the update, i seriously dont feel like there are any enhanced experience other than some cosmetic and copy pasting ios. Essential apps still on waiting list when i have applied for it for so long

Dvd Well done, I totally second this review!
1. I love the GlyphTimer, use it a lot, and the ability to adjust the Glyph Timer in 15-second increments was a fundamental feature, please bring it back!
Dvd I had mapped the Glyph Timer to “Settings > System > Gestures > Double press power button” and by doing this you can still activate the timer without unlocking the phone. Not a real solution, but maybe a temporary workaround.

Zac 🛸 What I loved in this update was the colour of wallpaper is present everywhere and they are vibrant rather than those colours on previous version, they used to look dull faded this time wallpaper colours are vibrant in overall system and even in quick settings tiles

ChrisJ_Joseph_P1NpRo6vMr The seconds option allows you to select seconds, but just that. You can’t combine minutes and seconds, which is pretty stupid for a timer. The previous interface was perfect, at least on the way it worked

Dvd oh i mean the previous 15 second increment made sense , @Zac 🛸 pls have a look above ……….I use it on a daily basis , I believe many does but the previous 15 second increment was the best …(Or maybe let the seconds toggle manage seconds part of a timer and minute part manage minutes of a timer )

I think Nothing should fix these issues and also give users more customization options:

1. Icon size resizing & shape customization
2. Option to hide app names.
3. Fix the uneven padding/spacing

I’m a developer too, and these shouldn’t be too difficult to fix or add. 😅 Hopefully, Nothing considers these in the next update.

Also, the spacing between the Media Player and Quick Settings isn’t even. Please add an option to hide the Media Player from Quick Settings. Media controls are already available in the notification panel, so it doesn’t need to take up extra space here. This would make Quick Settings cleaner and more customizable.

If possible, please consider adding a Smart Sidebar/Dock in Nothing OS 5.0. It would make multitasking much faster and more convenient

It’s extremely useful for multitasking—opening apps in pop-up view while gaming, on a video call, watching videos, using WhatsApp, opening ChatGPT for message improvements or suggestions, checking emails/messages for OTPs or important links, or quickly opening Chrome for a search.

This is one of the most requested features from users switching from MI, OPPO, Realme, vivo, OnePlus, etc.
