Hey All,

I swung by Selfridges, London this morning where Smartech has just begun sales of Nothing’s ear (1).

The display was very unique and stood out amongst the others, as you can see, with the giant white mantis from the launch promos.

There were a dedicated few, who had arrived for store opening at 10am and headed straight for the Nothing display. I’m unsure how many units are available, but they were being taken from the stockroom in batches of ~10 at a time, depending on how many people were queuing.

It was great to see the brand out in the real world, rather than on a screen, what do you guys think of thier retail debit?

Damn that huge white (actually called ‘orchid’) mantis is super unique and eye-catching. I am sure that anyone who wonders into the store will have a look at it. I mean you don’t see marketing like this everyday.

Personally I love it. It’s far from the usual kiosks, even a bit morbid I’d say, but it calls for attention for sure. Even non-techy individuals will see it and go ‘huh what’s that thing over there’ and check it out, eventually associating Nothing with weirdness and uniqueness, which in my opinion is a good marketing strategy. They will remember the company if nothing else.

    Thanks for sharing! 😁

Rob ⚡️ Thank you for making the stop and snapping the photos for posterity.

I like the marketing design, it certainly catches your attention. It’s interesting they were bringing the ear (1) in batches of ten. If the online commotion is anything to go by, they’ll soon be out of stock.

About the orchid mantis - thank you, @Dominic - I am just glad they went with that as the representation of the brand’s identity.

I can only imagine what would happen if Nothing chose to recreate the ladybugs at that scale. 😆

If attention grabbing was the goal, I think they definitely succeeded! Thanks for the mantis detail also 👌

My pleasure, it was great to see. Having a website and social media is great, but you can’t beat seeing actual products in person.

I think the stock was being kept hidden away for security reasons, as they’re quite small, pocketable boxes … but yes, I agree, I don’t expect there are too many units available!

I hope we see those ladybugs at the next retail location 😂🐞

I am curious to know who is going to be the first here in the community to see a pair of ear (1) in the wild. Meaning: crossing paths with someone else using them on the street. 😁
