How to DeGoogle your nothing phone!

Well I'm writing this post because I know there is some privacy advocates here that don't like google on there phones so I'm going to teach you guys how to de-bloat your nothing phone without universal android de-bloater (it doesn't work on the Nothing phone! as there is no drivers for it or support on the ADB side) So there is always option 2. Shizuku and Canta I thought this should save beginner's some time on debloating their phones. First off you need a computer with a USB C connection to your phone. You need to googles official webpage https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools and download the SDK platform tools for OS. Once you download the extract that until your get to the folder "platform-tools" https://s3-nothing-prod.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/2024-06-26/1719376165-524131-image.png Okay now lets enable developer mode (if you haven't already) Go to your settings: about phone > Nothing OS 2.5.6 (click the image) > Build Number (click it 5 times until it says your developer on the bottom) Now that you are developer navigate to Developers Options > USB Debugging and enable it Go to your terminal and go to the path one in the file directory type ADB Devices https://s3-nothing-prod.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/2024-06-26/1719376253-138360-image.png If it says unauthorized go back to your nothing phone and authorize it it should prompt you with do you want allow this device press enable. That's it! You removed the google apps from your phone it's recommended you download the F-Droid store and download FOSS apps (Free and Open-Source software) which app wise provide the same capability's like FOSS Contacts, Calendar, Messages, Phone, Clock, Notes are all the same or very similar to the google counterpart but doesn't spy on you or send metadata through apis.

Behing google apps, there are google services, those cannot be removed, because those are a part of working system, but they can be blocked from accessing network.

Yes. Alternative is custom roms, but just because they are custom, they have some other issues, as i said before. Lack of support for some banking services, or lets say, banking services are not interested to support open source project for obvious reasons - it is open source 🙂

I am waiting for nothing 3a but waiting to see if what apps comes with the phone…

I do also looking for samsung phone becauseone ui 7 has Sone of the samsungapps usefully and it doesn’thave google dialerand google calenderit has some good use full pre-installed apps…

the main thing I like clean ui and that should not give useless google apps

kuajunote You can remove Google Play I have removed it though some apps require google play services so they will seize to function.

Gogo_0Jj9Kk6WNu thanks for your guide but I’d like to remind you that with Shizuku and LADB (both from the Play Store) you won’t need to connect your phone to your computer. Just activate Wireless Debugging in Developer settings and all terminal commands can be input through LADB.

Love my Google Apps, would never get rid of them. Now if I had a Chinese phone I would gut the hell out of that phone for sure.

For users who are not confident enough to play around with the above, there are small things you can do which make a huge difference in improving your privacy. Consider switching to Brave browser and Pronton VPN’s free product as a start. There are some very good, trustworthy websites that offer further advice.

sean (1) Nothing Phone would have to make significant security and hardware updates in order for it to be viable for GrapheneOS. Graphene has extremely strict OEM requirements.

i need some help with this- i’m trying to get away from the whole apple-ecosphere that i’ve been in for like 15 years, and i got a used NP2 as a replacement so i’m not afraid to play around with it.

however i’m a noob; is a more detailed step-by-step possible or is this as simple as it gets? (-_-; )

alright, i figured it out with the help of my partner.

they used the command prompt instead of terminal/powershell (didn’t require the “cd” command first to enter get to the pathway. tbh it’s been some time since i had to use powershell, and it took me embarrassingly long to figure it out again). also, canta is now available on google play store.

i uninstalled all the recommended google apps and it seemed to be alright, except that the log tool, contacts and sometimes play store kept stopping, but after restarting the phone it was alright again, so i guess no harm done ┐(‘～` )┌

Correct. GrapheneOS is now working with an OEM and they hope you have a supporting phone out in 2026-7.

I do the opposite, I get rid of everything not Google LOL. I want my Nothing phone as close to Pixel as can be.
