We've made it to August - somehow, after 5 months, we're halfway through the final stage of the Community Edition Project! Last week, we welcomed an exciting group of guests to our London HQ and Design Studio. @"Astrid"#36847 and @"Kenta"#37792, the Stage 1: Hardware Design Winners; @"Andres_123"#42308 , the Stage 2: Wallpaper Design Winner; and @"Ian_H_Simmonds"#44414, the Stage 3: Packaging Design winner. This was the first time that our winners so far had met each other in person. They all had a very exciting prototype review session at our Design Studio with CMF Design Lead, Lucy, and were able to give even more feedback on details such as button colour and the tint level on the back of the phone. Once again, there were many trips into the dark cupboard in the corner of the studio to see the glow-in-the-dark decals in action. Now that the hardware has developed further, the software team and Andrés can move closer and closer towards a final wallpaper collection! Inspired by the mesmerizing glow of bioluminescent jellyfish and the sophisticated allure of digital matrices, our design aims to fit with the inspiration of previous stage winners, but also live within the current NOTHING packaging family*." ![](https://s3-nothing-prod.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/2024-07-25/1721900509-523995-packagingcommunityedition-intoglow.png "banner") **Louis and Ambrogio - *A Microworld of Bioluminescence Unveiled: Linking Technology and Biology*** Another duo created a very cool concept combining insects and scientific elements: "*like a diorama in real size, a microworld of bioluminescence to explore, viewed in a Petri dish like under a microscope, made up of fascinating natural bioluminescent animal organisms (zooplankton) and plant organisms (phytoplankton), which together represent the invisible biological chemical energy that allows the phone 2a to light up without the need for anything else*." ![](https://s3-nothing-prod.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/2024-07-25/1721900867-596501-communityeditionbiologypackaging.png "banner") **Vivek - *Fusion*** And finally, Vivek's design "*showcases the dual nature of the phone—its luminous presence in daylight and mysterious glow in the dark—harmoniously and practically. Interesting how it’s shaping up - I am still wondering if the hardware though will still be based on the actual 2a hardware or will it get a free upgrade to the 2a Plus hardware? Although it will be unique in it’s own right - from a hardware standpoint - it seems kinda dead on arrival now that the 2a plus has been officially announced and supersedes it.

2 changes I would like to see with this Community Edition device.

No. 1 Change the packaging style, make it like CMF Phone 1. 2a has some weird packaging, you have to tear the box to get the phone, and oh boy, don’t even ask how Flipkart’s delivery guys open them in front of you.

No. 2 Make the back panel of the device out of glass instead of plastic.
