Should I upgrade to the (3a) Series from Phone (1)?

Hey everyone,

I’m a bit confused and need some advice. I’ve been using the Nothing Phone 1 for my daily tasks, college work, and light gaming (around 1 hour a day). I bought it in 2023, and I’m wondering how long it will keep getting software updates. Is it still a good phone to stick with for the next few years?

Should I upgrade to the Nothing Phone 2, go for the upcoming Nothing Phone 3a, or just wait for the flagship Nothing Phone 3 (hopefully dropping soon)?

Would love to hear your thoughts! Let me know what you guys think. 🙌

negishubham I am with most other replies and would say if you are still happy with your current Phone (1), you shouldn’t upgrade. Android 15 most likely was the last major update for this phone, but as long as Nothing hasn’t released their own variant of Android 16, there is no reason to be bothered. Even if: It’s not like your phone stops working by not having the very latest Android version. In terms of security updates, it should still be good until summer of next year.

Overall I’d think the 3a (Pro) would be a true upgrade, just in terms of camera and display alone. You could wait for Phone (3), but keep in mind that will most likely be quite a bit more expensive than 3a.

SamarthNP1 still figuring that out ( 450-500 USD ), but i don’t wanna overspend if the 3a offers good value. you think the price gap between 3a and phone 3 will be big?

AadeshSabale yeah, that makes sense. waiting for the phone 3 launch will give a better idea of the differences between the 3a and the flagship. hoping the price gap isn’t too crazy though.

I think you should wait for phone 3 launch ,and then compare between 3a series and phone 3 according to your needs and budget and choose best one you like

After launch of 3a series phone 3 will launch approx 2-3 months gap.Till that time no major updates will occur for current products.

If you can’t think of any reason to upgrade, why bother? You’re obviously happy with the phone (1), so why send it to landfill and waste your hard-earned money on a new phone that realistically offers you little more than you already have? Wait until you see a phone and think to yourself “I need that.”

NP1 is still a good phone, it just got Android 15 and for this year 2025 it is still competing, then it will only get security updates, when Android 16 arrives and you don’t feel adequate anymore you can decide to buy a new phone.
