honestly, there’s always a work around.
Initially, I had ESpace working on my CMF1 by imitating a KEY press on my CMF1 but Essential Space was so infantile that I didn’t find use in it. It’s the same with the ESpace button. I see the fiscal decisions about why it’s kept locked down but it can easily be remapped.
It’s always a cat and mouse game and often you can’t alter hardware … the CMF1 is a STARK exception with the removable rear panel … which is why I went for it and fried my first CMF1 within days … lol.
If I was the OP, I’ve said my piece and I would keep the old version of Launcher and ESpace running and update ESpace until it gets locked down.
It seems quite easily with chatGPT5 and JADX and some compiling options to unpack APKs modify them and replace them for usage (at least it looks quite simple with the camera APK). So, that’s an option and it’s decently easy these days.
