Hello community members,
I wanted to share a concern of mine as I feel that there is a recent issue with regards to the future relevancy of Nothing devices.
With the recent release of the Nothing Phone 3a lineup and the CMF Phone 2 pro, as a Nothing Phone 2 user, I am concerned to where do the old devices stand for Nothing as a company.
Many users like myself bought into Nothing Phone 2 for an excellent experience as the max priced device for Nothing. However, with the recent releases, it seems that these older devices have been taken off the priority list.
While I do understand that there needs to be 100% focus on newer models, but some concerns of older devices are still not being addressed.
Ever since Nothing Phone 1 released, the biggest concern from users has been the camera experience which followed till the release of Phone 3a where a new camera app has effectively fixed many previous concerns.
However, with the Nothing Phone 3a series, the older devices were never mentioned for such updates. The CBO addressed these issues during the Quarterly meeting update mentioning a new tuning method “may” be implemented to older devices and upon many concerns, Carl confirmed via X that the new camera update will make it’s way to older devices if the feedback is received well. This update was from 18th March and now the CMF Phone 2 pro is launching with the Nothing OS 3.2 while older devices are yet to receive Nothing OS 3.1 on them.
Now, I understand that as a fairly new company, implementing such major updates takes time and there needs to be a lot of manpower to address these updates. However, it is worrisome that Nothing as a brand did not take older devices into consideration when implementing these camera updates on new devices as Nothing Phone 2 is still pending for a major Software update as well as another year for Security updates. As a community member, I believe it is fair for me to question that the devices still available for software cycle are not being concerned with new and improved features and the company is keeping silent over this and providing no real information.
Further, with the new Essential Space being Nothing’s first OS Based AI implementation, it requires the essential key which is not present on older devices so is it safe to consider that future AI Features may not make their way to older devices due to these hardware limitations, despite being part of the update cycle still?
As a user, I love my Phone 2 and Nothing OS has been the best software experience of my life but it is hard for me to trust the brand for future devices as it could be possible that with the ever-growing lineup of Nothing Phones, older devices may be left behind for newer devices with no real updates.
I hope that these questions can be answered as I want to learn what the company plans for older devices.
