“Fashion is very important. It is life-enhancing, and, like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well” – Vivienne Westwood
In 2015, the Apple Watch was launched and it was later revealed the company partnered with the luxury fashion designer Hermes. This was new and totally unexpected within the industry, so what was the point?
In simple terms, it was a stroke of genius as both Apple and Hermes are experts in their own fields (tech/fashion). The ultimate goal here was to create a product aimed at both audiences, creating a personal watch and giving it more meaning than just a smartwatch. Alas, you suddenly had a fashionable statement around your wrist instead of just Apple’s latest tech.
This got me thinking about other ways the world of fashion and tech have combined. Here’s some examples (in some cases, absolutely silly):
Nike x Playstation – Trainers for fashionistas and gamers
Pie Tops - Pizza Hut custom trainers that actually let you order through the shoe
EP 01 Trainers – Trainers that combine audio tech to deliver a ‘full-body sound experience’
Oura Ring – Who would’ve thought that jewelry could not only be fashionable but actually provide you with full-body analysis and data
Ray-Ban x Facebook – ‘Capture, share and listen’ your all in one solution to uploading what you see to Facebook
Let’s all go shopping!…No, not really, but I’d be keen to see what fashion tech combinations you find interesting and would actually consider buying.
What about Nothing? How can they blend fashion and tech together? Any brands you’d like to see a collab with? On the other hand, does Nothing even needs a brand to collab with? How might they achieve similar success in house?
