Would you be drawn into buying a privacy-focused smartphone built by Nothing in partnership with [GrapheneOS](https://grapheneos.org/ "https://grapheneos.org/")? It might not be a pipe dream! https://twitter.com/GrapheneOS/status/1933283091293819328 https://twitter.com/GrapheneOS/status/1933291484284960891 Currently, GrapheneOS users' only real option is to use Google Pixels, but if Nothing was to become the sole official partner their smartphones would immediately draw hundreds of thousands of new users from across the world who want to use the most up-to-date privacy software on the latest hardware. Pre-installing GrapheneOS (with Nothing Launcher) would remove their pain point of trying to reach the mass-market, and increasing Nothing's userbase so considerably would put them in a stronger position to negotiate the cost of top-of-the-range components for their competitively priced devices. The GrapheneOS team brings a wealth of experience in developing software and have millions of dollars to invest. Should Nothing/CMF partner with GrapheneOS to release a new range of 'hushphones'? I would buy one at launch!

The GrapheneOS developers will only consider the devices with the most secure hardware. That used to be Pixel, but due to Google’s plans with Android the developers feel they have no option but to start building their own devices. It’s recently been announced that Motorola are going to be building Graphene devices. 😔 It’s unlikely they will develop for Nothing until their hardware is as secure or offers similar features, such as a switch that physically disconnects the camera and microphone.

I’m a little curious so what would be the hardware requirements that perhaps graphene os requires to deploy in phone?

Nothing has, well, nothing out of it. On the software side, Nothing’s goal is to push AI into absolutely everything (Playground idea amongst other things). On the hardware side, their devices look awesome, but looks can only go so far without software.

GrapheneOS’s philosophy is the polar opposite of Nothing’s approach - many features are missing (and GrapheneOS users don’t really care about those), such as Google’s spyware and random AI slop through the OS itself.

grepGander yes but that only applies to their software. If say you had a partnership with GrapheneOS as Nothing, you would have opted to put their privacy focused software the devices.

What GrapheneOS is looking for is hardware based security features, which likely is what Nothing does not have, or at least does not have to the level of which they are on Google’s Pixels.

aavv Yes, but why would they [Nothing] do that? Just to put together hardware for another OS and that’s it? And to publicly say that Nothing OS is not worth keeping so there, you can use our hardware with a better OS? Why give Nothing OS in the first place then?

Even Google is trying to get rid of GrapheneOS by locking Pixels completely, and Pixels are even more expensive than Nothing phones for similar hardware (and superior cameras, but cameras are not worth +30% extra). Thus why Graphene is now partnering with Lenovo/Motorola.
