Poor WhatsApp video call quality - help

I am new to Nothing phones and to Android in general. I’m using the Nothing Phone 3a, and I love it for its minimalistic design, especially when coming from an iPhone.

However, I’ve noticed poor video quality during WhatsApp calls. My front-facing and rear-facing cameras seem overly processed, resulting in a surreal effect. On the other hand, the camera performs excellently in other video calls, such as Teams, FaceTime, and Google Meet. This indicates that the issue is specific to WhatsApp, rather than a problem with the Nothing phone itself.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and is there a possible fix? I rely heavily on WhatsApp calls.

I had a similar issue, but it got better after 3 days. It’s bizarre, but I’m glad.

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but my video during WhatsApp video calls is choppy or lags. Is there a way to fix this?

I noticed this on a Whatsapp video call today - my preview video for the front facing camera was choppy. The person at the other end say it was smooth, so I confess I just ignored it.

I’m using the Nothing Phone 3a Pro and really appreciate its clean design and smooth performance. However, I’m facing a consistent issue with poor video quality during WhatsApp video calls.

Despite having a strong Wi-Fi connection and all WhatsApp video call settings set to high quality, the video sent to the other person appears very low-quality or overly processed. The front and rear cameras both work perfectly fine in other apps like Google Meet, Teams, and Instagram, which tells me the issue seems specific to WhatsApp and not the hardware itself.

I’ve come across others facing the same issue, so this doesn’t appear to be an isolated case.

I would like to report a video calling quality issue with my Nothing Phone 3a Pro. I recently conducted a test between this device and the Moto G34 5G by making WhatsApp and Google Meet video calls. Both phones were connected to the same high-speed Wi-Fi network during the test.

Surprisingly, the Moto G34 — which costs under ₹10,000 and has just a 16 MP front camera — delivered significantly better and clearer video quality than the Nothing Phone 3a Pro, which has a 50 MP front camera and is priced close to ₹30,000.

On the Nothing 3a Pro, the front camera video during WhatsApp calls appears blurry, washed out, and low-resolution. This issue affects usability and indicates a possible software or camera optimization problem, especially with video calling apps like WhatsApp.

I have attached screenshots taken during the video call from both phones, clearly showing the difference in quality. I kindly request that your team investigate this issue and provide a fix via a software update, as it’s disappointing to see a budget phone outperforming a premium device in such a basic and essential feature.

U have come from using facetime on iPhone, facetime is just too gorgeous, WhatsApp video call cannot give u 1080p lagless video calls on any Android, so it’s not a nothing problem

im not coming from a iphone, im coming from a budget device, oneplus nord 3 to be exact..

the camera on whtasapp feels like 240p , compared to the actual camera in the phone.

I bought the Nothing phone 3a pro few days back and i noticed it has a horrible video call quality for whatsapp and other third party apps , i think its an optimisation issue which should be fixed asap by Nothing . My previous phone which was 2 years old did better video calls than this one shows that nothing hasnt optimised the video call quality for third party apps.
