Amudhan_Sundararajan then don’t use it. I don’t see what is so hard here. You can make an evidence-based decision to use or not use ES.

CMF1_hacker well I wanna use this. As I told you, I only want it to access the data i present it, let it be the screenshot or the photos in my gallery. Let me pick what I wanna share. Whenever I accidentally press the button it captures the data on the screen and saved it on gallery. So, it doesn’t really need the entire gallery permission to store the screenshot. Just read what scoped storage means or just scroll through my profile and I’ve posted about it earlier.

I like nothing too. But, I’m not acting like a fan boy here. But, you guys are acting like a certified fan boys and defending this. 🙂

Anonymous931 well, google won’t access your entire gallery tho. Ever heard of scoped storage? Apps can access your browsing data by accessing your cookies and sell your browsing data, make profits out of it. But, they can’t access your entire gallery unless you let them access it.

Literally every single apps follow this. Including Google, facebook, WhatsApp and telegram. All of them collect your data, show advertisements based on the data (cookie) they’ve collected. But, with limited access and scoped storage (they’ll only access their folders) they atleast don’t peak at your photos.

It literally will. Check permissions of Photos, Calendar, Gmail, Drive…

I really don’t want to comment about the rest. Sure you are correct but you are intentionally focusing SOLELY on Nothing and the Essential Space when Nothing is super-transparent (unlike others you mentioned) about what they do. All while just giving permissions without even reading what they say just to notice that a week later. There, your own words:

How about offline transcribing? It’s the only feature I’m interested in and I assumed such a basic feature would be included at launch. For me Essential Key is redundant without it, which is disappointing to find out after getting the Phone (3a).

According to the privacy policy all the speech-to-text processing is done on the phone, so I’m surprised there is no offline transcribing for those of us who do not want our private notes/data sent to nameless third-parties’ servers.

Amudhan_Sundararajan nah, I’m OK with the take it or leave it policy. I’ll take it. I assume that all data on my mobile phone is public as it’s naïve to think otherwise. Physical storage (paper/pen) is the only information I expect not to be parsable.

I live one the UK, and while not as surveilled as other country when my face and gait is analysed and stored, I fully expect all electronic communication to be compromised. Hence, I keep physical lab notebooks in a locked cabinet that are not easily copied. All signed and dates for IP purposes.

Edit: I read you last post and you should be using e/OS as it even runs on my CMF1 and not expect survive like ES for free. If you’re not paying; you are the product. Ignorance must be bliss homie.

When I got the phone I was excited and really wanted to use the feature hence i just skimmed through the setup as it was my secondary device and I just wanted to dream journal and notes at that time. I didn’t care about it that much. When I switched to nothing as my primary device i noticed it.

You literally, AND I MEAN QUITE LITERALLY (to caps it like you), have Android System Intelligence running every single second when your phone is on, and no, you cannot disable it. So you didn’t disabled the most important part regarding your privacy.

You don’t buy any Android phone at all if you really care about your own on-the-phone privacy - because Google is actively spying you every second when the phone is running. Well, you buy Pixel and go Graphene OS, but that’s another story…

Check its ALWAYS ENABLED permissions (which you cannot enable or disable), you’ll be shocked 🥴

What I said before, scroll up in the comments, that concerns about privacy are 100% valid, but the other guy is focusing EXCLUSIVELY on Nothing while ignoring everything else - because he cares so much about his own privacy. Try to read it all instead of taking stuff out of context. I even said it - if you don’t agree with that then don’t use it. It really couldn’t be more simple than that. Here’s my Google drive permissions page. I’ve disabled backup when I setup the device itself. I don’t even backup my WhatsApp chat on Google drive, i simply migrate it from one phone to another.

On the permission page we can choose which permissions are okay and which one’s are not okay.

When you click on all permissions, it simply explains the permissions it needed and what it does.

Just check any app, this is how it’s being presented. That doesn’t mean every app is bypassing your permissions control.

He’s focusing exclusively on Nothing because this is a Nothing community board and this thread’s topic is Essential Space, for which he is voicing his concerns but you keep banging on about Google. He bought the phone for Essential Space, similar to myself, but can’t use it because of privacy concerns that can be resolved if Nothing chooses to.

Much needed updates, LezGew!

I’m still longing for the basics:

a search function across the Essential Space app
reordering collections manually or by the date of latest entry
a way to back up my essential space content with the pictures, associated text and metadata generated by the AI, etc.
a condensed memory feed
incomplete events not shown in the main feed after an hour or so

Still, I know y’all are working hard. Great update, and great work teams at Nothing ❤️🚀

And now, after I showed him exactly that before with my screenshot, he finally managed to find it and is explaining me where to find that. I give up. Nothing is bad and evil, you’ve been scammed with the Essential Space. There, happy now? Rhetorical question.

I can totally understand why it’s confusing.

Currently, the Essential Search only searches apps and widgets for me (using 3a Pro).
According to the commercials, it will search for quick settings, files, images, etc. in the future. But I’m not sure about if it will search within the Essential Space app. I think it would be a clutter to mix up the OS-level search with searching entries in Essential Space, so I’m sure there will be a separate search within the Space app.
I don’t know why you lost Essential Search bar after the update. It stays as is for me even after the update.

Anonymous931 Yeah, I enabled location and nearby devices permission. Because, I need to grant location and nearby devices permission to use find my device feature just incase I lost my device.

You’ve mentioned that android system intelligence will access our data all the time and we can’t disable it. So, I took a screenshot and showed it can be disabled if we want to and still use the device without any issue.

I’m not saying that nothing is being evil here that permission is a sketchy one, nothing has promised us that they’ll delete our data once it’s processed by AI. but, we all know whatever that we feed to an AI tools will be used to train the model, your data will be anonymized but your data will be there. Granting such permission is not good and hence I’m constantly sharing my concerns. I’ve raised several feedbacks regarding issues with camera, LUTs and Essential space. And they’ve addressed it, fixed it. Except this. They’ve told me that it’s in pipeline but, can’t say how long it’s gonna take to implement it. Since they’ve told me that they’ll fix it… i simply raised the same concern once again here as they’ve implemented several features but not the one I’ve been hoping for.
