Glass Screen Protectors for Phone (3)

Dear NP3 colleagues,

I seem to have scratched the front screen protector that comes default on my NP3 … I assume this is a hydrogel and I can replace it with a glass protector? I’m not even sure how this happened but I guess I should switch to glass now.

Any ideas for good options?

Hi CMF Hacker, the pre-applied protector is just a fairly common plastic film protector, not great quality and thus simply is prone to scratches. Your’s would have scratched sooner or later anyways.

There are a number of tempered glass options already available on Amazon, however I haven’t ordered any of these, as I am currently hoping Spigen will release one within the next month.

In secret I still have a faint spark of hope Nothing would actually release their own tempered glass protector, as the one they did for NP2 has been pretty much perfect in every single aspect.

amaansajil I still have both the CMF1 and the NP3 and have scratched the protectors on both phones. I use the NP3 as my normal phone and the CMF1 is now around the house for the children and for wi-fi only usage. I love them both even though they are at different price points.

Coldpaw many thanks! if you see a good one, could you let me know and I’ll try my luck with it. My phones get a lot of use and I usually cycle into work (and into the bag it goes) and use it at the gym (clamping into a rower) and then on the bike again and my two children always use it too! my hardware runs out fast.

CMF1_hacker As I mentioned in a different thread, the Spigen EZ-Fit tempered glass protector is now available on Amazon (Germany). Spigen has a great reputation for phone accessories and is pretty much the only bigger brand releasing stuff for Nothing.

I ordered it and will report back later this week once it gets delivered. My expectations aren’t the best though: I had two Spigen tempered glass protectors for my Phone (2) and they developed air bubbles very easily, they didn’t attach well to the screen. Hopefully the one for Phone (3) will be better.

I’m interested in this thread too! The one the comes pre-applied is ok, but it’s a real dust and lint magnet!

Speaking of Sigen, I just saw they already have a couple of cases that are coming soon.

By the way, I absolutely love my NP3!!!! It’s been said in a few places already, videos and photos don’t do justice to what it actually looks and feels in person.

They also seem to have a matte anti-glare option, I wonder which one is better? I’ve never used screen protectors before so I’m clueless here. But with this beautiful NP3 I want to protect it as much as possible.

Dan_ie Difficult to define “better” here 😉

To give a quick summary:

“Matte” (or anti-glare) protectors usually reduce sunglare and reflections, especially in outdoor scenarios, they are typically made of plastic. However they have a slight paper-lile texture, some people actually prefer this texture when swiping over the screens, others prefer to have a flat surface. Due to the texture and anti-reflective properties, you always see a light grainy effect on the display.
“Ultra clear” protectors are also made of plastic, they don’t have the textured surface and thus don’t have any impact in terms of display quality. The are the most common and popular film-type protectors.
“Tempered glass” protectors are my personal preference, these are actual thin pieces of hardened glass, so the screen keeps the glass feel to it, they also offer the best protection. However they are thicker than plastic protectors and if they drop and shatter, you pretty much should remove and replace them right away.

I’d love to hear from someone who has used these Mediadevil Magicscreen protectors.

Dan_ie You actually can get matte glass screen protectors (chemical etching or sand blasting) don’t know if they’re out for phone 3 though. In my experience matte glass is pretty good Unless you have a ultrasonic fingerprint scanner like in my case. Which isn’t the case for you.

Got my NP3 glass screen protector off of Amazon yesterday as the film one was a dust magnet. Still waiting for the Ibywind to become available.

I can give an update regarding the newly released Spigen Slim Fit Glass available on Amazon.

Unfortunately I will send this one back. In my eyes, it’s embarrassing for Spigen, a company which is known for good quality accessories, to release such a product.

No rounded edges. Each tines you swipe from the edges of your screen, the harsh edges of the glass act as an annoying barrier.
Their protective glass for Phone (2) had a precise cutout for the earpiece section, this one does not.
The fitting is worse than the default, factory applied protective film.

In my opinion every Nothing Phone (3) owner is better off purchasing one of these generic, el-cheapo tempered glass products from those random Chinese brands with strange names. Not only are these much cheaper, but most of them at least feature rounded edges. Very disappointed.

CMF1_hacker Yes it was an Amazon purchase, I’ve had some Spigen products in the past and the packaging seems legit, it’s just the glass protectors itself which are utterly disappointing. There also isn’t any kind of apllication frame included, which also was standard on their NP2 tempered glass product, so you have to align the protective glass by hand.

Coldpaw I usually consider Amazon to be real stock with TEMU/SHEIN garbage mixed in that’s difficult to distinguish. Honestly, it sounds more like a forgery as I used a Spigen on my Mi 10 Youth Edition and it was top tear. Amazon and Ali are pretty similar low-quality these days IMHO.

CMF1_hacker I also used Spigen in the past, that’s why I was holding off for them to release their product for NP3. Well, not worth the wait after all.

Now I am going to wait a couple of more weeks and hope some other brand might fill the gap.
