NOS widgets for PC | Help

So recently I started working on adapting NOS widgets for PC users. I assumed that “If we use these widgets every day on phone, why won’t we use them on PC too?”. I’m listening to the music everyday day, and I really like the widget on my phone, so why not have it on desktop too? So I recreated it with rainmeter, it’s pretty close to original, including animations. After that I recreated 3 other widgets from NOS, and one I adapter for performance monitoring.

So I was wondering is it legal to make such thing free to use for everyone via GitHub?I used NType 82 Mono and Nothing Dot 5×7 as well.

Currently this project is only on my PC. Would glad to receive any suggestions / advices and anything that would answer my question.

I just want to be ensure that it’s safe to distribute such projects as mine, in terms of copyrights and stuff.

Ok so not a lawyer or anything, but I did some research. Apparently the biggest problem is the font, as it is explicitly copyrighted and owned by Nothing Technology Limited. In consequence, I recommend you ask the User to download it himself and use a placeholder instead. Recreating an exact 1:1 of the widgets is not ideal, but won’t conduct to automatic legal actions. As far as I am concerned, you’re risking nothing :

Nothing has never (I think) taken legal actions against a community member for a fan-made project. In fact, they’re promoting them.
You project is very comparable to the Ear(web) project. It is on a platform Nothing has currently no product on (Desktop PCs). It would make little to no sense for NTL to sue you.

In conclusion, just replace the font (again that’s only an advice, I’m not a professional). I’ve asked Perplexity AI to answer your question and it returned approximately what I’ve found.

Appart from the legal aspects, WHAT AN AMAZING PROJECT🤩. This is one of the nicest rainmeter build I’ve seen in years. I hope you will release it one day !!!

I’m glad for your response! Actually I have seen tons of apps and things were made with these fonts, personally I like NType, it’s kinda nice one, would like to use it more in project.

But the thing is that other creators use these fonts in their projects, what makes me feel confused (Like: Smart Glyph, Glyph compass, NCalc, Noting (Notes app), others).

Odd Yeah technically it is illegal but honestly I think Nothing just doesn’t care, they let their community have fun… Imo you could just release it with the fonts and all, but just keep in mind this is still illegal. Keep us updated!

Somehow I got even stronger desire to keep working on project, so more people would enjoy it later.

Fresh project so far

I think I started less than a week ago, with 0 rainmeter experience. Currently 6 widgets variants. I want to make some more widgets before releasing it.

You also can suggest one, if you are looking for a specific widget.

Odd Ok so super ambitious but MAYBE a Nothing X widget using code from the Ear(web) project ? And when you click it it opens the Ear(web) website ?

Also I think the snake game one fits particularly well a PC desktop (using the arrow keys as the controls if this is possible, I have no idea as I have never created a rainmeter widget myself).

You said you were new to rainmeter, is it hard to learn ? I might consider creating my own widgets.

Nicouschulas to be honest I supposed to make a 4×2 weather widget before the release. So yeah possibly I’ll make it, I don’t know how hard that would be let’s hope its not

I was thinking on adding Nothing X widget as well, currently researching a way to add control panel (ANC and stuff).

As for rainmeter, it’s not hard at all. I’m also planning to make simple templates, so users would be able to share their widgets too.

I can’t tell much what I’m planning to do, but yeah.
