Flip to Record lands on Phone (3a) series

As promised, Flip-to-Record is now available on Essential Space for Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro.

Just flip your phone and long-press the Essential Key to start recording - it’s that simple.

A new Glyph light pattern signals recording in real time, so you’re always in the know. Essential Space then takes it from there: recognising different voices in meetings, transcribing conversations, and generating AI-powered summaries, complete with actionable to-dos.

Note: Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro need an OTA update for Flip-to-Record - (Build: Asteroids-V3.2-250717-1803)

On your device, head to Settings > System > System updates > Download and Install.

Updates are rolling out gradually — hang tight!

Rob ⚡️ I’ve just updated my 3a pro and will try the flip to record function thank you Nothing team. May I ask one question which maybe related to the update. My default camera setting which has my preferred LUT filter applied for quick access, now only applies when selecting the camera icon, and will not apply when double clicking the power button to access my camera, as it did previously? I have rebooted my phone, tried clearing the camera cache, reset the filter saved and applied as default, still the double clicking the power button method selects photo 12mp standard setting? Any suggestions?

Had it for a couple of days now, just had a moment to use it a few hours ago, and it works great!

I can assure, it is a really handy feature to keep a log of those occassional meetings with important people and you’re anxious that you’ll miss something.

“Works like a charm”, great work teams at Nothing! ❤️ Essential Space is definitely something now, with the cloud-calendar integration and this.

Uday quick question? does it use your AI minutes to get a summary? I probably have 10h meetings a week that I’d like to record and summarise for dissemination to others. I guess I could try ti, but you already are. How are the minutes calculated?

You record for a certain time, and you end the recording once you’re done. You go into the Essential Space, navigate to your recording and you have an option to “analyze” your recording. It does(surprisingly quickly!), and when it does, you’ll lose your credits equal to your recording time. You have 300 free minutes per month.

So for example, you record 30 minutes and hit analyze, you get the outcome and you’re left with 270 free minutes for this month. Probably, once you use up all the free minutes you’ll be prompted with a paywall.

Yeah, it’s interesting to see what NOTHING’s plan is. There are free tools (at least free for us at uni) like Notebook LM, that I can dump a bunch of papers into and have a narrated podcast be created for listening. Students really like it.

I’d like to test it but 5h of meetings per calendar month is quite short. I can covert my meeting recordings to text and have Notebook LM make podcasts.
