Can't see Chemical Engine in Notifications

I’m having an issue with my Nothing Phone (3). No matter what I do, I can’t get the Chemical engine to show in notifications - it always defaults to the Diode engine when “Generative” is selected.

I’ve already set Chemical as my engine in the settings, but the phone keeps showing Diode on its own. It’s getting pretty frustrating.

Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Any tips or suggestions would be really helpful!

Georgij I’ve seen a lot more people complaining about similar issues, which is really disappointing. One of the main selling points should work properly for everybody, right?

I got an interesting reply from nothing support !

"1. If you choose chemical, a ringtone will be generated when contact A calls and paired with contact A. At this time, if you choose diode, the ringtone of contact A’s call will still remain unchanged (once the corresponding ringtone is paired, the ringtone of the contact will not change).

2. If you choose diode, when a new contact calls, a new ringtone will be generated that is consistent with the diode style

3. If your problem cannot be solved, you can go to Settings - Sound and Vibration - > Phone Ringtone, click the reset button in the upper right corner, and you can re-select diode or chemical. The ringtone will be regenerated when the contact calls"

Looks like I Can’t find the reset thing. 😅

And looks like my phone don’t react that way as the engine for the “only” one person that regularly call me have changed from diode to chemical ( first was not beautiful and then now it’s beautiful). So it’s strange.

But the idea behind this reply is coherent.

Engine for notification are too fast to even being noticed. I don’t like that. I’ll love that the interface let us choose how many seconds the animation is played for a notification as exemple. Let us play with what is the most fun part of this phone. The matrix and engine. Another thing is the ability to reset engine and have different results. For exemple the call diode engine results for one of the most important person i have is just strange and ugly with just some basic lines ( i was even thinking it was faulty… but then i received another phone call and the engine animation was just beautiful for this caller) . I’ll love to reset that and have another engine generated animation call for that person who is the only one that call me sometimes 😅

Edit : Ok i just make the test and for me i can’t go back to diode engine, it’s the chemical that plays everytime now, even if it’s diode that is selected. I have tried everything, restarted the phone, but nothing works. I’m stuck with chemical engine for call sounds. A real bug. I’m frustrated now 😅

I also face this problem a weak back then i restart my phone after that i can see the notification perfectly.

pollenjh Are there any real solutions? Rebooting or switching to classic and back does not help, I just can not observe the chemical. For 850 euros it’s a shame… I hope they fix it with the next update.

Strange as I’m a chemist and don’t understand what the “chemical engine” in English means. I assume this is Classical versus generative as below.

As far as everyone saying that it’s a USP for the NP3. I must remind you that this has to be custom programmed with no other codebase as no other supplier has anything similar. Thus, I would expect it’s rollout to be chippy unless you’re naïve.

Georgij I would keep an eye out for updates, but clearly there has been a few and this behavior hasn’t been fixed. In the latest update thread you can see some people talking about the same issue. https://nothing.community/d/39379

But it has no reason to not be fixable via software, like you said, so all we can do is report the issue and hope for the best.

CMF1_hacker Nothing mentioned in this video that the “chemical engine” is inspired by chemical reactions, which is super cool in prospect especially when you factor in that every single one is unique. Who wouldn’t want to have their very own chemical reaction based on their name?! The creativity of Nothing never fails to surprise me

pollenjh thanks for posting that video. I’m a synthetic biochemist prof so I find chemical and diode quite different (and not even in the same discussion). However, after watching that video I can see what the creatives are after and their reasoning is sound. Many thanks for the explanation.

So now i know that changing slightly the name of the contact will change the design of the matrix engine animation ! Good news.

Today for some hours, notification animation was not showing, instead there was animation of a Bell ringing. Impossible to have the nothing animation that was selected. And then hours later, it’s showing off again. Very very strange.

Anyway i really love what they have done with engine. Hope they let us play with that. Maybe offer a toys that plays engines randomly? I don’t know but i want to be able to see them anytime!
