Well, we might answer a few questions then.
- Will that OS allow us to download APK files so we could be able to install any application we like to? Some non-android OS allows but they’re too small and aren’t pre-installed.
- Will other companies and developers support it and create their own apps specifically for the new OS? Especially bank systems, for example?
- Will then the “open ecosystem”, that’s creating by @Carl, work? (I guess so in case that’s Bluetooth connection, but still)
- Will that project be at least succeed? How many phones should be sold to boldly say that this OS is succeed and it was worth creating?
Remember how died Windows Mobile, Symbian, Bada, Tizen and other local OS because it was so much easier to create something for a single OS or at least two.
My country bought an exciting OS from Sweden or so Scandinavian and now “tries” to create our local OS named “Aurora”. Has at least one of our tech retailers these in it’s stores, is these mobiles under that local OS even on sale somewhere? No one. But the OS really exists and local app magazine also works and installs apps because the OS can download APK files (I guess, I’ve only seen a pictures and videos of these, I even dk where to look at them).
It seems to me if I only could search for these the price would be as high so Nothing Phone (3) on a normal Android will feel much better in any specs and etc. compared to this “national” phone made in China.
To create own OS or not to create? At least it takes sooo much recourses an small company like Nothing won’t find as fast as the world changes (even according that tech became slower now). This definitely may automatically become unavailable for some countries as mine for example, because our companies won’t create apps especially for Nothing at all. But it depends on which type of apps will be there, apks or something other.
Huawei also has Harmony OS that’s literally the same Android but without Google services. Is that another OS or the same Android?
In my point we don’t need a new OS now, at least for the next years definitely. But interesting how other members think.
