After seeing many of those reviews recently here and on socials I decided to do my own thread with personal feelings after two month of use Nothing as my primary device and Nothing as my primary mobile ecosystem.
Disclaimer: I don’t know English as well, that’s why I can’t operate this kind of beautiful words and metaphors as in my native but hoping I’ll be “understandable” for the community and team members. Because I really thought to make this and do a personal honest review as a regular user that bought all the tech myself. So I guess this’ll be interesting at least 🙂
A zero thing, is moving. I mean Android switch app. I hate it!
This is what got me so hard. I don’t know will the team read this (hopefully will), but please make something with a content moving from phone to phone. Copy Samsung’s Smart Switch at least. Why do I suggest: that app moves everything just by wireless or wired connection from phone to phone without any other app. You just plug the cable in to two phones, set which stuff to move and after around 30 minutes you’re done with almost fully set up device.
In case I was moving from two phones to a single one I was forced to reboot the phone first to be able to turn Android Switch and then use many-many ways to move everything I need from my two Galaxies. I find this is not a solution for an open ecosystem and not great if I, for example, would forget about this again while setting up a new Nothing. Like we need something that’s fast, moving everything without other apps so we could import all our settings, our home screen setup and, what’s importantly, all photos/videos/files. I don’t know why no one paid attention to it. I’ve said it third time in a community I guess😅 just because I really think there’s something missing.
Well, what about an app maybe that is able to import all the stuff from previous phone but also able to send anything from Nothing to Nothing and other phones? Like Glyph ringtones, LUT presets and etc. Also a suggestion as my brain produce these ideas right now👀
So, let’s start about the phone itself.
First, the design.
Before seeing the Phone (3) I was definitely sure I’ll gonna buy this one because I thought it’ll have as many glyphs as Phone (2), but after seeing renders I’ve decided to go to (3a) as the most aesthetic piece for me at this moment. And I just really wanted to try the glyphs. I’ve chose the black one in case to see the lights better first😂 but then I was impressed by the overall design and still look attentively for a few minutes sometime.
Second, the camera.
I’m having a Z Flip5 and A71 from Samsung to compare. And I was shocked that a mid-range camera makes better shots than flagship camera. Like how?! A few days ago I caught the moon for the first time and also lost all the words. However, even with these amazing photos and portraits, there are a few cons…
I still don’t like the video camera. It’s white balance and exposure are “jumping” everytime when I shoot something. And no, locking exposure doesn’t helps. It becomes hard to edit such video. I’ve set an example of how it looks. And I also miss the portrait and Pro video options from my Flip. I guess for content creators these must be at least in a flagship model. That’s why I still make videos to my Flip at home because at my feelings static videos are better here. So, I’ve got a thing to improve!
You can clearly see there that even with a good exposure across all the footages the white balance still “balancing” so no editing could help here. It’s on a front camera, I haven’t tested the rear one for these shots, but guessing it’ll be better.
Third, the Essential Space.
I loved it! So, this text was also done here 🙂
It’s a great space for me for planning my life, saving stuff that I need to find quickly many times a day, any ideas I’ve got from my head for my posts to socials and etc. I still haven’t used it for collecting stuff but hope I’ll do it anyway to prevent the screenshots folder growing🫠
A few advices I wish be added here. First is to let the undone/unmarked things stay in a widget so that we could know we haven’t done something. And the second is to save content directly to Essential Space without a need to take space also in a gallery. Or have an ability to make that way.
Fourth, the apps and UI itself.
Being a hard customisation nerd back then that even wanted to root a phone (that was LG K9 at this time) now I’m really satisfied! Now I became too lazy for these things and I just enjoy the screen how it is. I don’t wanna more spend time in tones of themes, wasting time to see someone’s UI apps working on mine! This UI is already perfect itself so I can’t even add more.
I’m using literally the same stuff as I was doing on Samsung. But the storage used by stock apps and system is way less. This is what still amazes me and thinking about sticking with a new Nothing phone later.
I still don’t like Google emojis and prefer Samsung ones, but that’s a subjective thing. I haven’t got used to Google’s Dialer also that’s why Voidcaller for me became the best solution that looks like a system one. I also started to use JotterPad again like in 2019 because I didn’t like Google’s solution and Nothing styled apps. This one is still better for me in usability and even looks a bit close to Nothing UI (not according app colours). Overall I’m okay with the current app setup.
What really could make sense is the ability to delete some Google apps at all, because I really don’t need Google TV or Google Photos. For what? I don’t like them, I don’t use them. Disabling an app is a bit different option than deleting. Idk, maybe we all can’t do this at all, but still.
Sometimes I guess that AccuWeather is not as accurate in weather providing as The Weather Channel. I’ve noticed it myself and saw in a few members comments here, so maybe change the weather provider? Or have an option to choose?
At least but not last…
A few things about Nothing Ear and CMF Watch
After a month of usage the Ear I’m a happy owner of my own pair! I can easily open the case by one hand (because this is similar to Buds2 case form factor) and the sound is like “whaaat”. I’m impressed. It still doesn’t cancel all the sounds and I still guess they’re not sitting well in my ears so maybe I’ll purchase the headphone (1) for my birthday or earlier to walk outside with them. Anyone knows how these works at winter? Approx. -10°C?
Also the Ear’s are connecting to my Chinese maibenben laptop pretty well. I’m just opening it and they’re connecting. Great. They also wants to connect to my Flip unlike my Buds2 what’s also an example of how the open ecosystem works I guess.
Btw, about an open ecosystem and PC connection. How could I enable phone screen appearing on pc if Microsoft app for phone and laptop connection doesn’t allows it? I swear this could be my everytime feature for making content!!! Maybe someone got any ideas or knows who to speak so this could be enabled somewhere?😁👉🏼👈🏼
The CMF Watch… With these I’m forgetting the day I’ve charged them! What’s impressive compared to my old Galaxy Watch Active that lasted 2 days and it was like “normal”. Now my watch strap often gets dirty in use so I need to clean it every week, but still I like that orange that’s also a stylish piece. I don’t need any emulation option for gallery and etc., but these are doing its job well.
A little suggestion is to add a synchronization between the clock alarm and watch alarm so we wouldn’t need to set two alarms at the same time. For me it was really helpful when I could heard and “feel” the alarm. Why not really add it?
Definitely the last one…
As a tech-astrolog, I’m watching all mobile brands to see if something suits to a concrete zodiac sign. For a concrete person I end analysing his natal chart to see if a brand, for example, Apple or OnePlus will be the best solution for him and which model to choose.
So, who Nothing definitely should target (and with 80% it will succeed!) to run faster in a world by my opinion: Aquarius, Pisces, Gemini, Sagittarius and gen Z respectively. Because those are the people that loves creativity at its full. They love experimenting with things, being everywhere and everytime, having a thing for like “shock value” effect (especially for Sagittarius), and also those who need a help to move their creativity in a right way, so Nothing products are helping them get faster into this without even need to do anything. For those who’s not in these signs it can be great investment in a well-working ecosystem and job that can be done much faster (Capricorns like me, for example), so then targeting these signs with any sort of planning and to-do directly without need to install any other app will definitely be the reason to change.
If anyone from team is interested, maybe, in how to target that audience, I can tell more in the comments or directly to some from you as the thread becomes longer and longer😂
Finally the end!!!
I want to thank @Carl and all the team behind for the job you makes here in a company to bring the joy and fun to ordinary life through these products that now aren’t just “nothing”, but “Everything”. I’ve done more than 700 pictures for the last few months, I’ve scrolled down all the videos in Nothing and Carl’s socials (excluding tiktok) and I’m amazed by how the community is growing and how the team, the number of users is growing day by day. Carl even became a little example for me in being a CEO of something personal (not a tech producing, no-no-no, hold on). So maybe great things are coming soon!
And yeah, I’m definitely will come to a Nothing Store if that opens in Moscow or other city of my country to try and see that experience.
Below are a few pictures I haven’t shown here but I also love them so much.
Would really appreciate your feedback on this one!
