Phone 3 Overheats when using Android Auto

Hello, another thing I have to complain about regarding my nothing phone 3 😅 Main reason to buy the 3 instead of the 3a was wireless charging for me. Since my car has a wireless charging pad I thought it would be so nice to just place the phone on the pad, wireless android Auto connects and boom, it just works. But it doesn't. (Sidenote I restrict charging to 80%). Even when the phone is full (80%) after 20-30min of android Auto the phone 3 goes into overheating mode and stops every app. When using wired Android Auto and charging the phone still gets very hot and I get notifications about thermal throttling (like Google maps is unable to render 3d buildings etc) but at least it works. When battery ist low (like 40%) it starts charging up to around 60% then it stops charging due to heat… I would love to turn on battery saving mode during android Auto/charging to reduce CPU power and reduce heat but android wouldn't allow this while charging… Another sidenote. I run a german app (blitzer.de) which notifys me of obstacles, traffic jams etc. Which probably also contributes quite a bit to the thermal load. Haven't tried it without. But anyways, I think a "flagship" phone should handle these things with ease and without excessive heat and especially without overheating and shutting off…. My old xiaomi redmi note 10 did, though only with wired charging. Starting to get disappointed by the phone…

Atschi which firmware are you on as the last two thermally throttle to keep the battery below 45C, whereas before that it didn’t.

if you’re on an older one the apps will be killed.

can you confirm which one you’re on.

I lived in central Frankfurt (Sachsenhausen-Süd) and there was a lot of “STAU!” on the A3/A5/A661 🙂))))))))

Atschi I left about a decade ago (maybe more) and the RMV was getting fully developed and even Offenbach, which most people considered a shantytown has really developed and is crazy expensive. I was paying 800€ kalt for 80m2 in an Altbau at Museumsufer. Not anymore I would guess.

CMF1_hacker that’s actually crazy good value. I pay around the same but warm for 55m2 in a city nearby and not a really good spot either. 😅

Friends of mine live in Offenbach Hafeninsel and for the good view on the Frankfurt Skyline the rent is around 1.5k for their flat. 😂 (you know, the best thing about Offenbach is the view of Frankfurt)

Atschi I cycled every day from Museumsufer to the Riedberg campus and back and it was always nice having a Skylinblick especially in the winter months. I left shortly after the U8 opened. I saw the first U-Bahn even ran on the U8 by chance as Südbahnhof. Good old days 🙂

CMF1_hacker Update fixed the issue (and even some other) At least the phone is no longer overheating 😂 anyways it could be even colder in my opinion 😂

Hello, I have the same issue, but I am using Metroid-B4.0-250917-1218-EEA. I know it’s a beta version, but I hope that it doesn’t carry over to the final build.

Edit: I am not even charging the phone

DomGaer do you have it in directly sunlight through the windscreen?

CMF1_hacker No, it’s usually in my pocket or the centre console but never in direct sunlight.

Okay. The issue is back. Now on software Metroid-V3.5-250923-1421-EEA

The issue seems to be my blitzer.de app which runs additionaly to android Auto to get traffic information etc. (It’s an app which I use in android Auto in the background).

Phone again very hot, shutting apps down (high temperature alert screen), slow charging, randomly turning on airplane mode (that’s new btw).

The phone itself didn’t shutdown but neither wireless nor wired charging or wired Android Auto reduced temps at today’s drive… for the last hour I just used wireless android Auto with enabled battery saver and without charging. Temps were okayisch…

Nothing definitely needs to improve CPU Usage/efficiency/temp management when using Android Auto and charging. That’s just not acceptable….

My old Xiaomi Redmi note 10 did it better… I’m actually thinking about using this old phone for longer drives…

Atschi CPU and TEMP usage control are not working at all in the Beta. Even when using hotspot the Phone gets hot. I believe its a modem thing not communicating well with the Android 16 framework
