Not-So-Subtle
I am so excited to post my entry for the event! For me, half of the entry is the picture and the other half is the story attached with it.
I moved away from home a year and half ago. I used to be the one who always made the rangoli in our home. Up there, in the North, we used colored powders and diyas to make our rangolis.
But I wasnāt there anymore, I live in a hostel, in Banglore now and that means I donāt have a lot of resources, plus, Iām not even allowed to make one. Last Diwali, I was so heart broken I couldnāt make one š
But, it was fascinating seeing how people made their rangolis here! So many flowers. People use flowers and their petals to make rangolis here and that I felt added so much to it. The texture, the color, the nature of it all just became so much better with it. That was something I badly wanted to try next time I made a rangoli.
I could not go back home. I had to stay by myself during Diwali. But this challenge popped up and for the first time I felt like I had a reason to celebrate. My sis and I went back and forth about how to make it! We planned, we ordered flowers, I got myself my favourite mithai, Kaju ki barfi and that is all we could get on our limited budget :p
We set it out on a call. Thatās when issue two popped up, I canāt use my phone to take the picture. So, I had to take this picture with a dumb old tablet from 2020 and work my best with it but both me and my sis ended up being very happy with what we came up with!
The idea being simple. I wanted to try something new, a different way to make a rangoli. For the first time, I experimented with flowers. Their texture and color adds so much value to the rangoli. Then, I wanted to decorate it with the barfi. I also adore the fact that the silver on it compliments my phone. Lastly, the phone. I got the CMF to stand out. I adore itās dual tone color palette and I wanted it to be central to the picture. Not just because it looks pretty but also because without it, or without this event, I would not have made a rangoli and this Diwali too would be lonely. So, as a tribute to it, I wanted it central to it all. We came up with two versions, one with and one without the golden sparkles. I like without better.
Lastly, I adored the time my sis and I spent trying to make it with scraps lying around. Itās made on my dinner plate because I canāt dirty the floor here. The put a sheet of gold paper from a chocolate box I got gifted earlier. The flowers are from zepto and the mithai is what my mom got me for the festival, knowing it is my favourite.
I know the discription asks for a short note but thereās just so much that went into this that I felt like I had to share. Absolutely gorgeous entries here! Some of them are just so pretty! š©·
Happy Diwali to all šŖ
