My Expectations about Nothing OS 4.0

Something similar to Dynamic Island or Pill used by other companies or Nothing’s version of it, like the Nowbar (by Samsung)
There are several places where Nothing OS feels limiting like Hotspot Settings, different volume profiles when headphones are connected and when they are not. (Only the media and notification volume adapts)
There’s a bug in Game Launcher where the control stays in mid screen and only can be dismissed to the corner after 5 to 10 mins.
Display touch issue still persists which should be fixed.
Material UI Expressive to be integrated into different parts of the OS or at least a toggle between Nothing’s Monochromatic Approach and Google’s Expressive UI.
Lack of proper integration of Haptics in various parts of the UI and more tighter haptics.
The animations are great but they can be better.
Precise volume and brightness control.
Home Screen Customisation:

The home screen pages can be customisable. It would be better if the quick settings toggle on home screen led to the respective settings on long press.
Introduce a hide apps options in which the app can run in the background (unlike putting it in private space)

I’m using a CMF Phone 1 and this would be the last major update so these are just my expectations.

I’m not sure how many of the AI Features Nothing promised would trickle down to CMF Phone 1 and that’s why I haven’t mentioned about AI much.

Dynamic Island/ Nowbar have no major advantages haven’t they? You see things, that you know about anyways. Do you know what I mean? When you are listening to music there is the music player when you access quick settings. Why shold there be another music visualisation around the front facing camera? Theses are unnecessary additions that make the OS heavier imo.
I agree with you, these are refinements that come with time I guess
Maybe that bug is specially on your Phone, that is no general issue (neither on OS3.2 nor on OS4.0)

I think with that suggestion they would have to double their capacities of development! If you buy a Nothing Phone you should get Nothing OS and not that overloaded transparent chaos of Google. And if you are a fan of Googles UI then you should buy a Pixel. You can not buy a Toyota and expect the interior of Volkswagen.
Haptics are such a great chance to make the phone feel alive so you are absolutely right here!
Absolutely true even though they are pretty smooth in OS4.0 Beta
For me that is the most important point here! There are often big steps between just one click of volume control! One step back is too quiet and one step ahead is too loud. That should be fixed asap
I think that the acutal capabilities of customization are absolutely okay but specially moving serveral apps at once should be integrated
I am not using that feature but sounds logical

Thats just my personal opinion that I wanted to share for people reading this thread 🙂

Guru there is more to come … we cmf users will directly get stable update in December or January… (assumption based on nos3 timeline) .. there is still 1 year left for updates… we have already seen how much nothing os got improved in cmf phone 1…it is better than when i first used it with out of box software version…

So there are chances that nothing will add more features and improve it more and if they do what they did with 3.0(coming from 2.6), 4.0 or 4.x will definitely make cmf phone 1 batter and we can use it for more 1-2 years after update cycle ends…

There are less chances of dynamic island or something like that…

hotspot and stuff like that will get fixed if enough user send feedbacks…

Touch sensitivity is improved… it’s day and night…fingerprint sensor also got improved… the inconsistency is more of a static and tempered glass issue ..i explained it before in discussion related to it…

Personally i don’t need/want AI implemented in every single app or everywhere in my device… the google Gemini and gpt will do work…

I’m happy and content with what cmf phone 1 is kow offering… i just want my phone to work smoothly and hope that nothing would not ruin it’s performance like apple did with their “we did this to improve battery longevity” bs…

Til21 The dynamic island like feature is particularly useful in terms of live activities, and I am not saying that my Nothing phone should behave as a pixel but I feel like Nothing should use Material 3 Expressive UI in its own way and not neglect it altogether.

The major drawback people say about 4.0 is that there’s not much of a visual difference (in a positive way)

JP Agreed 👍. I’m just asking for a good sendoff for the CMF Phone 1 with Nothing OS 4.0 with all needed features at least.

Guru I feel like Nothing should use Material 3 Expressive UI in its own way and not neglect it altogether.

I always wonder why so many people around here, in the Nothing community, want as much Nothing-native apps as possible to replace all Google apps, all of them native ones in Nothing theme/aesthetics, but they want those same apps to simultaneously be M3E (or completely iOS 26). How would that work? “I want everything completely black, but keep it all white without any black. But it must be all black but white.”, pretty much.

Don’t get me wrong please, this is nothing against you, just saying in general as that’s the pattern I notice here and on both subreddits (and YouTube comments etc.).

there’s actually a timeline and I wonder whether it’s concerted:

NP3 looks like trash
NP3 is far tpp expensive at 80k INR
NP3 is a failure as prices are dropping
the NTL loyalty bonus is horrible for those that bought the NP3 at 80k INR
BBDs and the price reduction to 35K INR is horrible for those that paid 80k INR or traded in a device
NOS4.0beta is horrible as it doesn’t have M3E, liquid glass, deep blacks, status bar updates
When will it roll out for other phones

Speculation

Battery life is horrible with NOS 4.0 beta
Camera quality has decreased with NOS 4.0 beta
NOTHING is trying to get us to update our devices by ruining them
I’m uhappy with removal of GL from the 4a
I’m unhappy with the addition of the GM to the 4a
When will my phone received NOS 4.2 that comes with the NP4a.
Battery life is horrible when I update my NP2 to NOS 4.2
