We are the only smartphone brand in the last decade that has successfully launched, scaled and developed full end-to-end capabilities.
Yes because of the enthusiasts who bought your devices based on the promise of no bloatware and clean minimal software.
This is a common approach across the industry, including for established brands like Samsung.
Which is why I did not buy a Samsung.
making careful, deliberate choices for every aspect of the product while still delivering an optimal user experience.
Define optimal because ads on the lockscreen and preinstalled spyware garbage isn’t optimal for and more importantly wasn’t there when I bought the phone it’s being forced on me after the fact. That is not optimal.
we need to explore sustainable revenue models to avoid passing costs and ensuring optimal pricings for our products - especially for entry- and mid-segment products.
So after years of making sucessful phones you now have better access to hardware and better data for software and yet somehow this translates into requiring more money? I think you’ve done something wrong. Honestly I’d prefer if the price was higher than this.
carefully considered selection of third-party partner apps and services that don’t disrupt the Nothing OS experience you love.
But that’s exactly what you’ve done.
These are apps most people install on day one, like Instagram.
Then by definition they already know how to do this.
On Phone (3a) Series, Lock Glimpse is off by default.
For now.
If you choose to turn it on, no personal data is shared.
Just like how when yous made a chat app it was encrypted?
This is standard across the industry
Again this is why I picked a Nothing phone and not another brand.
Keep partner apps minimal and easy to remove
Another lie as you can’t just remove the meta background stuff only disable it unless you’re advocating that the average user should have a crack at ADB. I’m not even a fan of not being able to uninstall the google apps without using adb but I at least understood why they were there by default even if I don’t agree with it.
Because these apps come pre-installed, they offer :Faster startup: These apps launch 50 to 100 milliseconds quicker.
This is a selling point? A literal eye blinks worth of time saving? Is this a joke or cope?
Being able to disable apps isn’t the same as being able to remove them and you know that, please stop this gas lighting.
The ethos of Nothing is meant to be bloatware free and sleek minimal software with a distictive design aesthetic. Sure you still have the latter but the former is essentially gone and what’s worse is it’s being foisted on users who have already bought in giving them no choice in the matter.
I don’t want any of this stuff on my phone and yes sure I’m tech savvy enough to know how to remove them but most people aren’t and I’ve definitely recommended people get a Nothing phone who couldn’t do this without help. Now I look like a fool because I suggested this brand.
Quite frankly I don’t care if the Nothing company survives or not that’s a problem from the company management not me as a user. If this stuff makes it to full release and isn’t phased out in the beta you have lost me as a customer permanently. Even if you do roll it back I’m still not sure I can trust Nothing to remain true to its promises going forward as now I’ll have to watch every update like a hawk to ensure it’s not going to add anything I don’t want and seemingly have no option to avoid.
This entire post is nothing but gas lighting. Maybe Nothing will survive without enthusiast users maybe it won’t but at this stage I’m an inch away from not caring either way.
