Offline alternatives to Google Photos and Nothing Gallery?

Photos keeps begging me to enable backup and is definitely farming my information in the background. Other than that, it's the perfect app.

Nothing gallery is great but it's far from being perfect. I'm compressing a lot of files from my Windows and syncing them to my phone, which changes the creation date, and that causes the order to get messed up in gallery. Photos displays them fine.

I really want to use Ente or Immich but I can neither afford the cloud storage nor a server to run it

I'd advise you to look into F-Droid. There are some good open source gallery apps.

You can have a look at F-Stop or Simple Gallery. Both have been around for years already, I don't know if there are better alternatives available today.

Both are also supporting .gif files, which is one of my ongoing complains regarding Nothing Gallery, which doesn't show gifs at all.

Coldpaw F-stop's manual tagging system looks really useful. Can it initiallu do it automatically? It could replace the google photos searchbar

I've been using F-Stop for years. Looks and feels "old" but is actually quite good especially for offline functionality and no ai shenanigans.

Fossify offers a whole suite of privacy focused apps. Just look for Fossify on F-Droid!

Anonymous978 Unfortunately I can't really say anything about it, since I haven't really used F-Stop since quite a while now and don't really use tags for my photos anyways (although I really should start doing it), my honest suggestion would be trying it out yourself.
