Today, we are officially starting the public rollout of Nothing OS 4.0, powered by Android 16. This update is experience-led, fast, and thoughtfully designed. It builds directly on the foundation of OS 3.0, but strengthens the core experience across speed, consistency, and interaction. From new minimalist icons that help your brain breathe, to interactions that move smoothly at speed, this update is about removing friction. We’ve tightened every part of the system. UI components now follow a more coherent structure, iconography has been refreshed for clarity, and animations have been reworked so navigation feels more responsive. Nothing OS 4.0 is a step focused on fundamentals. Faster responses, cleaner visuals, smoother interactions, and a platform that’s ready for what comes next. ### Refined by You We didn’t get here alone. The Open Beta Test gave us the real-world data we needed to finalise the feature set. OBT builds focused on a limited set of areas so we could isolate issues and prioritise what mattered most. Now, with the full rollout, we are introducing a wider set of refinements based on everything we learned together. * A lot of users highlighted areas where the visual experience could feel more consistent. This led to updated status bar icons, refreshed first-party app icons, deeper Extra Dark Mode coverage, a cleaner lock screen password interface and smoother animations. * Many shared thoughts on multitasking and day-to-day flow. That shaped improvements like a refined Pop-up View with Dual Windows, 2x2 Quick Settings tiles, more widget sizes and the ability to hide apps in the App Drawer. * There was also strong interest in having more glanceable information. This helped bring Live Updates to the lock screen and to the Glyph Interface, making rides, deliveries and timers easier to follow at a glance. Apart from upgrading android 15 to 16 the other aspects of this update seems like just a 3rd party app no one really care, not hating on the idea or anything but the new update feels empty.

Also whatever the flow means that ain’t a feature its just a word T_T

ZenithFr I suppose they haven’t fixed the private space issue yet: why do I have to show a hidden app before I can update it, otherwise the Play Store won’t see it?

Well i just tested this ( private space does not get recorded but you can see the brave beta app icon disappear on home screen since we cannot pause screen recording at will just yet ) and apparently its a bug or issue with a particular device ( 🫠) meaning you can report it to feedback and mention that it is with my device only. They reply soon enough as I have myself asked them a couple of times add some features like battery isage over a week which is amazing

ZenithFr I posted about this as they implemented it. This issue affects all Android devices (except Pixel) and the BBK group, which resolved the problem after it was pointed out. Nothing hasn’t resolved it, which is one of the reasons I abandoned the brand a few months ago. I find it absurd that they’ve removed the option to hide apps.

My only wish for 4.0 is for the new status bar icons to be implemented properly and this aint it. Nothing has had access to Android 16 QPR1 source code way before the official public release recently and the current implementation leaves a lot to be desired. Faithfully sticking to the stock implementation would have been much better than this neither here nor there implementation.

Zac I took myself to the Playground when it was announced and I still cant actually play or create anything until people (non special exclusive folks) can its Vapour ware!

Tor They mention it in the update that now we can create widgets, but I agree it still shows “Waiting list” on the playground… :/

G_Wood yes.. it is to find any major issues in os before sending it to every device… so all device don’t brick or have major bugs/issues..

Nos3 is staggered for almost 3 months… i got nos3 on January 25… it was released somewhere around this time last year only

I’ve seen a suggestion to add a volume slider in quick settings multiple times here and have posted about it myself. Still nothing. Just god, it is so easy to implement, so obviously helpful feature, every manufacturer that uses non-stock android implemented it YEARS ago. You and Google still turn a blind eye. F you, Carl.
