How safe is leaving the phone on charger overnight?

I don't use the smart charging option to trickle charge, I just set the limit to 80%. Combined with my 45 watt charger, if I put the phone on charge and go to sleep, it reaches 80 quickly and then stays there for many hours till I wake. Is that damaging to the battery?

I’m using my Nothingie since 2nd July… I guess if I had an iPhone I’d have approximately same battery health🤣 idk how it’s running as good with such usage

themountofmint Mmh, interesting. I’ve been having my 3a Pro since August and the capacity is still at 100%, according to the “Battery Information” option.

Nonetheless, there have been several cases in which Nothing phones’ batteries decayed faster than usual.

It seems weird that it’s already at 91% for you considering that you take really good care of your battery🤔

themountofmint That’s because you haven’y properly calibrated it yet. It says “no full charges” so it’s using unreliable data. Charge to 100, drain to 0, charge to 100, is a proper full charge.

When I did that on my August phone I got 97% health, which is normal (some part of the battery is reserved for emergencies)

leoth I’m not taking good care as I use it while charging, without charging, sometime I charge for around 60% and unplug the cable… a few days ago I discharged it to literally 0% because I haven’t noticed that the battery is low😅 that’s why I’m too surprised how long it still stays during the whole day

themountofmint Ohh I see, I got confused then. But either way, I think that at the end of the day we shouldn’t be too maniacal about the phone battery life. Let’s just use our phones as we need to.

What I do to preserve my battery life when I’m outside all day is to use an aggressive battery saver. I installed SaverTuner from F-Droid (https://f-droid.org/packages/s1m.savertuner),

and it lets you customise more aggressive battery saver features. With it, I barely charge my phone in the morning and then the following day. At most in the evening, then I put it into battery saver during the night, without charging. And in the morning I will have lost only about 2% of battery at most😉

For now, this seems to be the easiest solution:

JP you can get battery health percentage from accubattery by charging it from 1-100% charge… and you can use battery health by monoscape to know battery cycles and some info…

BenedictRafael Which code did you run for this information? Because on my Phone 2, the first code (*#*#4636#*#*) is not showing battery info (I used to use this on my Nokia 6600 back in 2003), and the second one (*#*#0#*#*) is not working at all.

For checking charging cycles, you can use ‘Device Info HW’ by Andrey Efremov or ‘Battery Health’ by Monoscope, as @JP mentioned. Both of these apps are showing the same result in my case.

BenedictRafael Yeah bro, it will. Install both of those apps and check the charging cycles in each, just to cross check. After that, you can uninstall them.

But one thing is, these apps don’t show charging cycles on every model. For example, in my Samsung, the Device Info HW app doesn’t show any charging cycles, and the Battery Health app shows 0 cycles. But on Phone 2, both work and show the same results.

"Hi Leonardo,

We hope this email finds you well.

We’ve heard back from the respective team, and they’ve kindly informed us that only models released in 2025 and later, as well as the EU versions, are currently available with Battery Information feature. Right now, other versions don’t appear at this time.
