PREET AJMERI
It’s actually quite personal for me, beyond just talking about a product.
When Apple discontinued the SE line, I was genuinely upset. To the point where I seriously considered emailing Sony and Asus, asking them to reconsider the compact phone market. After a few hours of searching, I realised there was no real, official way to even give that feedback. That was pretty disheartening.
What frustrates me most is seeing large corporations with the most resources consistently choosing the safest, most boring paths. Compact phones get treated as a “niche experiment” instead of a design philosophy worth committing to.
I understand that a compact Nothing phone is still very much in the concept phase, and there’s a real chance it may never materialise. But discussions like this, people in the community openly sharing experiences and values — genuinely matter. Having a space where these ideas are articulated and taken seriously is rare, and honestly refreshing.
Regardless of whether a compact Nothing phone exists by the time my Zenfone 9 reaches the end of its life, I’ll definitely give a Nothing phone a try. And I really appreciate brands that commit to long Android OS support, Asus offering only two years is, frankly, a shame.
Thanks for sharing your perspective. Conversations like this are exactly why these concepts resonate in the first place.
