Need a Compact Nothing Phone for One-Handed Use

Most smartphones today are coming with displays in the 6.1 to 6.3-inch range, but there are very limited options for users who prefer a smaller screen size. I am not very interested in gaming; my phone usage is mainly for regular daily tasks. Handling such large screens with one hand has become difficult for me.

Moreover, I am not interested in switching to another Android brand, as I am happy with my Nothing Phone (2a). I would really appreciate it if Nothing considers a compact smartphone option for users like me who prefer comfortable one-hand usage.

_iranSivakoti This is actually one aspect of my Nothing 3 I like. It’s between the 6.3 and 6.8/6.9 sizes @ 6.67, so I can more or less use it with one hand. But I agree with you that it would be nice to see a Nothing with a 6.3 size for example, though I’m not sure the phones that come with that size actually make one-handed use that much easier. I did test an iPhone with a 6.3 before buying this one, and I still had problems doing everything with one hand. I need that feature when I walk my dog and listen to music, mostly.

Putting the fingerprint sensor on the phone 3 above where it’s at right now would have helped me more in that aim. Or, perhaps making the page-drop feature more easily accessible for one handed use could be a major improvement to the UI, i.m.o.

We’re all could be happy of using a small-sized phones. But the sales of these are pretty low actually, when anyone releases these. This is why launching a small phone is like a quest for the company.

These phones usually have less-powerful processor, less battery capacity… but well I’d also wish to see something like this

I have been using phones from all sizes from 3″ to 6.7 but I felt in my experience that the size is one aspect, as phones were equally good at they basics when it was iphone 6 and 6s or iphone SE 2nd gen 2022.

Despite of compact size they were no less of all day company.

Now just coz of some additional macro or zoom and gaming experience the battery is being considered as major factor to increase phone size.

If Nothing is really working on this side, it could be a category which will have certain share.

I will be one of them who would want a compact 5″ phone with good camera setup may be same 8K series mediatech chip and a decent battery of 4500mamp to complete a day.

The main problem is being unable to reach in specific situations while a big screen is fine rest of the time. I think my old Redmi did this best: the one-handed mode shrinks the whole screen to a 5 inch size so you can reach all four sides easily. Nothing’s similar mode has the problem that it cuts off the bottom half of the screen, and you still cant reach the left right side

anujkhare_9Qlco3hBe0 Those phones were much slower and it wasnt possible to use enough power to drain the battery. It’s also fault of software devs that apps keep getting more unoptimised. Hence more battery capacity is necessary now

parhum My intention in preferring a compact-size phone is that while some people can easily operate a 6.7-inch device using their fingers, there are others like me who find it difficult. In most cases, we primarily use our thumb to operate the phone, while the other four fingers are used to hold it, which limits reachability on larger screens. When comparing usage between 6.3-inch and 6.7/6.8-inch displays, the comfort level clearly varies from person to person. This is one of the main reasons why many mobile companies continue to offer compact-size phones with powerful specifications.

Anonymous1123 Exactly! The issue isn’t just screen size, it’s reachability. Redmi’s one‑handed mode worked because it scaled the entire UI down to a smaller virtual screen, so you could comfortably reach all four corners. Nothing’s current approach feels more like a crop — you lose the bottom half, but the left/right edges are still out of thumb range. If Nothing refined this to a full shrink‑to‑fit mode (say around 5 inches), it would solve the problem without forcing people to compromise on display size.
