Hi Nothing Team and Community,
I am calling for the restoration of a hardware feature that was previously available but was removed from Indian units via software.
The Context: The Nothing Phone (2) is hardware-capable of Wi-Fi 6E. Many of us in the community remember that 6GHz support was functional on early versions of Nothing OS (2.x). However, this was disabled/removed in Nothing OS 3.0 to align with Indian regulatory restrictions at the time.
The Change: As of January 21, 2026, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has officially de-licensed the 6GHz spectrum (5925-6425 MHz) for indoor use. Official Notification: https://www.dot.gov.in/static/uploads/2026/02/88f0ac8c74eb6f6907934d17d0015ab5.pdf
The Request: Since the legal hurdle has been removed, there is no longer a reason to keep this feature locked. I am requesting Nothing to:
Restore 6GHz/Wi-Fi 6E support for the Nothing Phone (2) in the Indian region via the next OTA update.
Ensure regional locks are removed for Indian units even when used abroad in countries where 6GHz is legal (e.g., Japan, USA, EU), as the current software lock prevents the hardware from working even in those jurisdictions.
Restoring a feature that was previously “taken away” would go a long way in showing that Nothing respects its users’ hardware ownership and stays current with local regulations.
Looking forward to a response from the team.
