I don’t like to post, but I think this topic is worth discussing.
Google is removing the ability to install apps from places like F-droid and individual developers towards the end of this year. Like many who use Android devices, I only use them because I have the freedom to install and uninstall anything I desire. I chose a (3a) because Nothing has a butter smooth UI that makes that experience even better.
The Licensed Android device lockdown coming later this year will make the decision to use an Android device over an Iphone irrelevant for myself and I believe many others. I like Nothing and the direction they take in their design philosophy, so I would like to pose these questions to them and the community:
1: Would Nothing consider making a device that would not be effected by the Google Lockdown (IE. Installing a switch that allows for a closed ecosystem for unregistered developers to install apps, or sell a completely unlicensed Android Device)
2: Is this community even interested in such a product, (I don’t think we’re a minority, but I could be wrong)
3: Would Nothing ever consider partnerships with the developers of Graphene OS to release a device capable of fully utilizing an open and free OS? (Motorola is currently in such a process).
If this topic is irrelevant to many of you, I’m sorry I wasted your time.
