Nothing OS is missing back tap gestures and it's driving me crazy

’Been using the 3a Pro for a while now and genuinely love it. But there’s one thing that keeps bugging me.

Back tap gestures. They exist on stock Android, they exist on Samsung, even older iPhones have them. But Nothing OS? Nothing. Pun intended.

Imagine tapping the back once to lower volume, twice to skip a track. The Glyph lights up to confirm. That’s it. Simple, clean, very Nothing.

I keep reaching for my phone to adjust volume during workouts and it just feels like such an obvious feature that should already be there.

Anyone else missing this or is it just me?

fabianguenther08 Since you’re on Android, developers have created some excellent solutions. To fix your problem, there’s a robust open-source app called TapTap by KieronQuinn that does exactly what you need. It’s clean, minimal, and ad-free.

You might be concerned about permissions, but there’s no need to worry. The app is already free and open-source, so you can review its build code. It’s safe as long as you download it from the original author.

fabianguenther08 no as far as I know, it is not part of base stock Android. The “back tap” gesture is a Pixel-exclusive feature that has also been expanded upon through Pixel Feature Drops.

Google originally tested a double-tap gesture (codenamed “Columbus”) in the early developer previews of Android 11. The plan was to bring it to the broader Android ecosystem, but Google ultimately scrapped it before the final release. Because it was pulled from the open-source base of Android (AOSP), it is not a native feature you will find out-of-the-box on every non-Pixel phone.

If I’m correct, the nothing buds and other cmf buds have volume control on the buds itself. But I don’t think other company’s buds or headphones will work as it is software stuff not hardware.
I use CMF Buds 2 plus, and they’re going great till now. Clarity sound…..but yeah auto ear detect is bad…and bad means bad…..
