Update: I found a trick to solve it temporarily
if you want to set Essential Notifications for a specific Instagram contact on Nothing phones but it doesn’t work from the rules section, try this method.
1. Turn Instagram notifications ON.
2. Ask the person to send you a DM on Instagram.
3. When the notification appears, long-press it → Glyph Interface → Essential Notification → Save rule.
This forces the phone (e.g., Nothing Phone (4a)) to recognize that contact’s messages as Essential, and the Glyph light will stay on until the message is read.
To mute other Instagram notifications:
In Instagram Settings → Notifications, turn everything OFF except Messages.
Then mute other chats manually in your DMs.
Now only that one contact’s messages trigger Essential notifications and glyph lifhts while other Instagram notifications stay muted without any glyph or sound.
(For apps like WhatsApp this workaround isn’t needed—you can create Essential rules for contacts directly which works smoothly)
