Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking about what a tablet from Nothing could look like — something that pushes the boundaries of productivity, modularity, and playful interaction. Here’s my concept for the Nothing Note (1) Mini, a compact foldable that’s more than just another screen

The Vision

The Note (1) Mini combines an 8.3″ inner display with a 4.0″ functional outer screen. But the real magic lies in the hardware interaction:

Modular Slot

A dedicated slot for Expansion Cards.
Need more storage? Slide in a 256GB Storage Card.
Want better audio or a built‑in stand? Use the Speaker Module or Stand Module.
Feeling creative? Even an additional Glyph Matrix could be an option.

Haptic Interaction

A side-mounted scroll wheel for precise volume control and app navigation
A rotary dial on the outer shell to interact with the Glyph interface in a tactile, satisfying way

Pro Camera System

A dual‑camera setup (Wide + Ultrawide) enhanced by a LiDAR sensor for advanced AR experiences and spatial scanning.

I’ve been experimenting with some new color combinations lately: Black, White, Rose, Blue, and Desaturated Green.

What do you think about these new shades? Are there any other colors or combinations you’d like to see (e.g., Rose + Black)?

C0nc3pt_07 I really want a Nothing tablet or laptop so badly. I love the color combinations; they feel fresh and unique. But the patterns and overall design of the body feel a bit too complicated and overworked. I think a more simple and sober approach would look even better. Something closer to the Phone 4a Pro design language, with a more refined aluminum body and slightly reduced transparency, would make it feel more premium and balanced. Just sharing this as constructive feedback, hope you take it in a positive spirit 🙂

Wow! I love the new ideas. They make it truly unique! I especially like the pink and black versions. This green is very special, but also an exciting idea. I’d love to see a burgundy version with gold accents.

PREET AJMERI I understand what bothers you about this complicated back design. However, I think it only looks that way because the black outlines make each piece stand out. If it didn’t have any outlines or a frosted glass, I imagine it would look much cleaner.

C0nc3pt_07 This looks really clean, definitely an improvement over the earlier version. I’d still suggest avoiding overly complicated patterns; while they can feel visually pleasing to us, they often become challenging when it comes to real-world manufacturing. I’ve made the same mistake before, and it’s something I’ve learned from.

Just look at this, I have made the same mistake by creating complicated patterns, this looks shit to be honest.

Yes, I fully understand your opinion. But isn’t the second option already better? How do you think I should make the whole thing less cluttered? Which areas would you simply leave covered with aluminum?

I think that if, instead of using different colors, you only use parts with different textures and other materials but only in, for example white, the contrast isn’t so high, which would make the many small parts look more like one decorative piece.

C0nc3pt_07 It’s not necessary to start directly with software; try sketching on paper first, it helps you express ideas more freely. Once the concept feels clear, you can move to software. Most designers follow a complete process like this, and I’m learning it too.

Hi Preet,

I have done a bit of research lately and found some major disadvantages of an aluminum unibody:

No inductive charging possible: This would also make MagSafe pretty much useless for charging purposes.
Material sensitivity: Aluminum deforms easily during drops, and scratches are quickly visible.
Thermal conductivity: The material conducts heat extremely well, causing the phone to get hot quickly under load or feel unpleasantly cold in winter.

Although a tablet or smartphone can feel higher-quality due to a full aluminum housing, features like MagSafe, inductive charging, and Nothing’s transparent design language are more important to me than a monochrome metal device.

Would it also be okay with you if part of the back was replaced with a material other than aluminum (like the ceramic plate on the iPhone 17 Pro, for example)?
