Everyone seems to think you just allow a new version of Android to be put on your phone, but it’s not that easy. Every Android phone is different and requires considerable effort to code it for the specific hardware your phone contains. That costs money and that makes it a business decision.

antiqueradios I agree with what you wrote. For anyone who follows this community, it’s clear that NOTHING struggles with software optimization on its phones — none of them excluded. That’s why I don’t think they’ll waste time and money giving a ‘gift’ to Nothing Phone 2 users. This is just my opinion, and I’ll be happy to realize I was wrong.

I don’t want to offend anyone but I think it is just fair for a company to make a promise and then fullfill it. Of course the processor would be capable. Look at Sony or POCO Phones, it’s the same there and if it was communicated transparently there is no problem 🙂

Til21 🇩🇪 It doesn’t seem like NOTHING has made any official promise; this request has simply been brought to the team’s attention, and they will have to make a decision. To avoid false expectations and disappointment, I suggest waiting for an official response from NOTHING… if they decide to give one.

ItzNotHJ fair point that you have pointed out here and I do very much agree. However, I have to say that the Phone (2) that I’m currently using does not feel any slower that the day I picked it up. But the point still remains, if the 2a with slower budget chip is officially announced to have the android 17 update, I dont see why the Flagship phone 2 cant. Having Android 17 on phone 2 will keep us with Nothing for another year until they release the “New Flagship”

BengHan If you scroll through the previous posts, you’ll find several solid answers to your question , here’s a summary:

Nothing scheduled updates for the N Phone 2 up to Android 16,… that plan has been followed.
In a similar situation, the community had requested Android 16 for the N Phone 1… did it receive it?… No, it didn’t.

But the most relevant hypothesis is the one suggested by @antiqueradios 👇

As a Nothing Phone 2 user, of course I’d be happy to get Android 17 on my device, but I don’t want to get my hopes up.

PinoLY For me it is clear that I will leave the world of the nothing operating system when the ‘big’ update comes from Google in september and we can only do the sideloading with great effort. I will then probably switch to ‘GrapheneOS’ or possibly also to Kali (Linux) and thus continue to enjoy the FREEDOM 🗽 to do and leave what I want with ‘my’ device.
And with GrapheneOS I also have the possibility to continue to use current Android versions as I want and to continue to install any app, no matter where it comes from and not what Google wants to force on me.

7ch also often have the feeling that no one is aware of ‘his property’ anymore.
You paid for the phone, so it’s yours. With everything that is pre-installed. After all, there are some terms of use for everything. And if 8ch buys me something and it is then ‘my property’, I don’t let anyone and certainly not Google tell me what I can and can’t do with it or what software I’m allowed to install and what not.
Not with me. And yes, I know ADB will continue to go. Nevertheless, it is a cut that I did not ‘agree’ on when I bought the device. Cheekiness of Google to insert something like that afterwards.

zvrvki Sorry to tell you, don’t get so optimistic.
Nothing’s Support says that 90% of the times to make you not feel ignored, they did the same multiple times as of 4k60 support, HDR fixes, etc and it never got fixed, even when the community makes fixes in minutes.
Don’t get hyped on this, it’s a very average nothing team to say “we escalated this to [sector]”… Nope, it will probably go ignored unless it’s a genius marketing idea.

Also, companies don’t stop updating devices because it’s not capable anymore. They give clear update windows because they need to prioritize the newer devices, if they had longer windows, they’d have to maintain updates to loads of phones simultaneously. It’s too much hassle for such small company to handle.

zvrvki Honestly I wanted the Phone (2) to last longer. The 8+ Gen 1 in this thing, even if it’s 4 years old, deserves a longer life since I ran the latest OS 4.0 builds and it can still handle those without a problem! If that is the case I don’t see why it can’t handle Android 17 or even 18!

If the company truly were to discontinue software support, that really is a software limitation and not it’s true limits.

I hope to see an official announcement soon!

Karim Azmy I don’t think they will make an official announcement because they have no reason to. When they launched the phone they committed to a limited number of updates, you should have taken that into account when you bought the phone….

zvrvki is it worth the try my friend?, I mean myself included many has raised this serious issue way before alot, like for why in the world brand is not providing additional software update for this phone, they introduced phone 2 as their 1st flagship. Brands like pixel and samsung gave their model already, I mean hardware wise phone 2 is still pretty good shape to take additional 1 or 2 extra software update. I don’t think the brand will notice us anymore 🫠

Not at all.

Nothing needs HR, and maintaining an old phone is not a good way to have HR available.

The 2a is from 2023

The 2 is from 2022

If the 2 launched on Android 13, it’s getting 3 updates, finishing on Android 16

If the 2a launched on Android 14, it’s getting 3 updates, finishing on Android 17

You don’t need to be a genius to understand this.
