Nothing/CMF Focus Mode - Concept Overview
Basically, a proper stripped-back, distraction-proof mode that turns your Nothing phone into something you actually use with intention instead of just mindlessly scrolling.
Not just DND with a fancy name, the whole phone behaves differently.
Visual Identity - Keep it Minimal
Full black & white UI
No colour, no gradients, no flashy animations, just clean and simple.
Proper basic icons
Just outlines or solid shapes, nothing fancy.
Static wallpaper
Plain black, white, or a subtle dot-matrix style. No movement at all.
Slightly toned-down brightness/contrast
More like paper than a glowing screen.
The idea is it feels calm. Like the phone’s just… quiet.
Lock Down the Apps
Only essentials show up, you pick them, but default would be:
Phone
Messages
Clock
Google Search
Settings
Notes (optional)
Camera (optional)
Everything else is fully hidden, not just greyed out.
If you try opening something blocked:
“Unavailable in Focus Mode.”
No distractions, no loopholes.
Behaviour Changes
This is what actually makes it useful, not just a theme:
DND turns on automatically
Only starred contacts can get through
No animations at all, everything just snaps instantly - it avoids being eye-catching
No widgets
No multitasking screen
Only one app open at a time
Quick settings stripped back (just brightness, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth)
Lock screen is just the time, nothing else
Basically stops your phone acting like a dopamine machine.
Built-in Focus Timer
You can lock yourself into it for a set time:
25 mins (Pomodoro)
45 mins
Custom
While it’s running:
You can’t just leave, there’s a 10-second hold-to-exit with a confirmation
Timer sits subtly on the lock screen in the dot-matrix font, and darkens when the screen turns off so it’s only just visible, so you actually commit to it
Clarity Dashboard
After you finish, you get a simple breakdown:
Time spent in Focus Mode
Apps you tried to open
Notifications blocked
Screen unlocks avoided
No streaks, no rewards, just straight info - it avoids being hooking or addictive
Hardware Integration (I’m particularly excited for this evening though I have CMF not Nothing)
Glyph lights:
Slow soft pulse for important calls
Progress bar effect during the timer
Ear/CMF Buds integration:
Auto ANC when Focus Mode starts (still manually changeable)
Optional white noise / ambient sound
Nothing Watch:
Mirrors the timer
Cuts out everything unnecessary
How You Turn It On
Quick toggle
Lock screen shortcut
Schedule it (like 9–11am)
Auto-trigger from Wi-Fi/Bluetooth (like when you open your laptop)
Overall Feel
It should feel like:
Sitting down with a blank page
A clean, minimal workspace
Zero noise, zero clutter
Not restrictive - just clear.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and perhaps get a support base to push this idea further. It would be beneficial for students and those who work from home - and this concept creates a base for an Ultra-Powersaving mode similar to Samsung’s to make the battery last an extra mile.
Below are some AI generated concepts of how the mode might look - maybe we could get it looking better together?
