Two weeks after the release of a new version for the Nothing Phone (4a), I still don’t understand why the 4a Pro has not yet received the April patch. For a newly launched device, the first two months after release should be a period of rapid updates, identifying and fixing issues quickly, but unfortunately, I haven’t seen that happen with the 4a Pro.
I suspect that the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 platform may have caused considerable optimization challenges for the Nothing team, whereas the 7s Gen 4, being nearly identical to the 7s Gen 3, is easier to optimize.
Based on my current experience, aside from the opening and closing of the camera app, I haven’t noticed any significant improvement in smoothness on the 4a Pro compared to the 3a Pro under similar background conditions. This is quite strange. The biggest issue I’ve encountered is with auto-brightness: in certain situations, even when ambient lighting remains unchanged, the brightness fluctuates up and down. I never experienced this on the 3a Pro.
I’m also unsure whether the 4a Pro will ultimately offer better video recording capabilities than the 4a. If it can only maintain the current level, that would be quite disappointing.
As an early adopter, aside from being very satisfied with the design, the overall smoothness and user experience have not met my expectations. I hope they can release a new update as soon as possible to address these issues.
