Camera2API update for 3a and 3a Pro

I recently used the Nothing Phone 4a and it was awesome. But i noticed something - 4a has the support for third party apps to use camera hardware (different lens like ultra wide and telescopic) without any problem.

In 3a, there’s literally nothing you can do to get this on your phone, this is due to the camera hardware listed as “Limited” or “Full” in the Camera2 API probe, rather than “Level 3,” restricting advanced raw photography functionality in third-party apps.

I know many might not get this but this is very important feature/function for a phone to have. And I think 3a and 3a Pro are more than enough new model to have this in their phone (it’s not like very old model).

I hope Nothing Team reads this and in the next update they make it to “Level 3”. Rest I think the Nothing Phones are the best.

SumitPai I have sended rhe mail related to this that when lens support will come to nothing phone 3a a and ther replied our devlopment team is actively working on it and this feature is part of nothing os 4.1

Seriously, thanks for the best news ever!

Since you’ve used the Phone (4a), could you check if it supports In-sensor zoom in 3rd party apps? On Pixels, you can get a high-quality 2x crop that doesn’t look like a digital blur.

I’m glad to know that they’re working on it but I’ve updated my phone to Nothing OS 4.1 and still don’t have access to the other lenses, I’m building a nothing specific app and it’s kinda stupid that I can’t utilize the entire phone for an app specifically made for it.

itouri yeah, it supports optical zoom as well because third party apps can fully access the camera features 😁

Ah, I might have worded my question poorly. I actually meant “In-sensor zoom” using the main (1x) sensor, not switching to the telephoto lens.

For example, when you pinch to 2x zoom on the main lens inside a 3rd party app, does it give you a high-quality sensor crop? Or does it just stretch the image like a regular digital zoom (which makes it blurry)?

itouri no borhh it shift it’s lens to telephoto and because of that zoomed photo gets more details and high quality but it’s not confirm when it will come on 3a series and less chance on coming on 2a

Just to clarify, I’m strictly talking about the Phone (4a) here.

What I really want to know is the underlying Camera2 API implementation on the 4a.

I’m curious if its main camera’s 2x in-sensor lossless zoom is actually exposed as a distinct physical camera ID (or via specific stream configurations) that 3rd party apps can query directly, similar to how Pixels handle it.

Or is that 2x crop strictly an internal ISP behavior managed only by the stock camera app on the 4a?

itouri Sorry, I dont know the details cause I used it (4a) just once but until 1.9x zoom its digital in main camera (mostly lossless) after 1.9x (2x +) camera lens switches to telephoto.

itouri not brohh it’s optical zoom in 2x because it shifts to telephoto lens when uh will zoom photo to 2x faar better quality than other phones who use digital zoom and yes I request every body to give feedback back for this feature for lens support just to go setting then tips and feed back and u will find feed back option just go and send them a feedback
